    Is this rude?

I think many times, people don't realise that a lot of things on the internet lives on forever. Sometimes I type a reply then delete it. Sometimes I don't reply if I have nothing constructive to add or if I feel it could lead to potential arguments. I double check and triple search to find...

    Possible lye heavy CP soap?

I've never seen bubbly soap like the first pic. 2nd pic of the whole block looks fine. 3rd pic with cracked bar just looks like what would happen to me if I 1)cut castile too late 2)soap cooler and soap ashed all over resulting in crumbly soap 3)cut using a knife. Does the soap feel soft and...

Need help finding a natural orange colorant

You could try red palm oil if you're not opposed to palm oil. This was made with between 25-30% red palm oil. Stained my white mould a bit but looks very close to an orange colour.

2nd in the pot swirl attempt

Agree! Crumbly soap is still your hard work. I tend to chuck all the not so nice pieces into a cotton soap bag and just use it. Specifically, the cotton soap bag since I can barely see the soap through it, I don't think about it aesthetics. I've only ever tossed out soap due to mouldy dried lemon.

Cost of everything - but let’s chat about Lye

@AliOop Sorry to be on the slow side, when you say all over do you mean inside and outside? Like before I fill the container? I'm on my last small container of lye and probably will do a refill within a month.

Cost of everything - but let’s chat about Lye

On this topic of lye, do you guys get your lye in beads or flakes? I've always used beads since the flakes option was more expensive. But I realised beads tend to static stick on my jars and I don't know if flakes do that.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I'm making some soaps for gifting in September. Trying out the secret feather swirl. 2 weeks ago did a test, turned out not bad. Decided to do 1 batch every week until I get enough soaps. Last week's feather swirl didn't get swirled! I was texturing the top then realised I hadn't swirled it...

    Shrink wrap out?

I used to shrink wrap all my soaps. Then I found self-sticking plastic sheets so I use those mostly now. I only shrink wrap bigger sized bars, round bars, soap ends and odd shaped bars. I get POF as I prefer the softer feel. Slightly higher heat to seal but overall I prefer POF to PVC. In my...

Virgin CO in CP soap ?

Coconut scent doesn't survive saponification. I use cold pressed CO and it smells lovely going in. The next day when cutting, nothing is left. Just the basic soap smell.

    Help - Lard/Lye/Coconut soap disaster

Yeah, I have a plastic net bag that holds all my soap. I find the cotton one doesn't dry as fast thus making my soap mushy.

    Heating pad question

I don't have a pic of my heating pad but found something 95% similiar. Only the plug part is different on mine. There are several settings of heat from 1 to 8 or 10 I think. I usually use between setting 3-5. My only complain is the pad doesn't heat evenly as it depends on where the heating...

Should I buy a new scale?

This is me regularly. I have a terrible habit of watching the oils flow from the bottle and that has led to me being over the measurement. Don't ask me why.. I just love to watch oil pouring from the spout and mixing with other oils. I make small batches so I'm easy 20g over the limit. I usually...

    Help with Item: Anhydrous Ethanol

Is it from Etsuko Watanabe or Aromatica labo? I love their soaps! A dream to look at. Seems like an item that's not easy to get. https://www.nedstar.com/products/non-food/anhydrous-ethanol https://www.spectrumchemical.com/dehydrated-alcohol https://www.biobasic.com/ethanol-anhydrous-85

Target humidity for the curing area

I'm so envious of low humidity or being able to run a dehumidifier for a few hours a day. My soaps cure in my air conditioned office (AC on for 5 days a week) and the humidity is at 65%. My salt bars never stop sweating. I used to cure soap at home but the rainy season led to some serious...

    Help - Lard/Lye/Coconut soap disaster

As someone with no stick blender, I can safely say lard or olive oil is not something I would use in large amounts. I did a 30% lard recipe before and it was slower than a snail. Also, if you used olive oil instead of olive pomace, it will be even slower. I now use a recipe with 30% olive pomace...

    Gritty/grainy when mixing

Sounds similiar to what happened to me. This FO I used accelerated quickly and turned into curds while in the pot. Had to drizzle liquid colour in, chop the curds and mash it into the loaf. It was hot to touch while doing all that. Oozed oil the next day and had to be dabbed dry. Turned out...

    Is this DOS?

Looks more like a gel ring. DOS would look something like this. Very obviously orange dots of rancid oil. When you smell that area, you can smell the rancid oil compared to the non DOS areas.
