Thanks, I think that might set me in the right direction!

Roundish soap-how do I make that?

Basically is there a way to make a roundish bar that looks like commercial bars we all bought before we started filling our homes with soap? 🤣

    adding glycerin kills lather?

5 minutes is definitely too long. Beginning to end it takes me about a minute and a half to two minutes. I'll time it next time :) The water discount may have factored in. I think the lack of stearic and palmitic acids plays more into what's going on though. I have added up to 12.5 grams in a...

How do you make a perfectly white soap? I've been challenged..

https://lovelygreens.com/eco-friendly-cold-process-soap-recipe-instructions/ This is my main basic recipe. It is said that EVOO will tint green, however regular OO does not. I've found this to be the case, however I wouldn't call my soap perfectly white. Does have a hint of off white in there...

    adding glycerin kills lather?

Hey Blufuz, this is an interesting conundrum. A lot of what I have to say comes from the perspective of being a wetshavers for about 15 years, and a soaper for only about 2 years. I have to say I've not experienced a lathering issue with glycerin being the root cause, and I put a higher...

    measuring accuracy

This! I do this for shave soap, I love how percent=grams on 100 gram batches. It's the only way I can keep this as a hobby and not have half my living quarters filled with tubs of soap lol.

    Draggy soap

8 weeks cure=less draggy. Still slightly draggy, but it feels like 4 more weeks will be the sweet spot. Soap also feels harder.

Shave Soap Super Butter Shave soap

4th shave notes-blooming: Tried blooming the soap (basically soaking the soap in hot water 5 or so minutes) this go around. Resulted in easier lather and more soap on the brush. Interestingly the slickness improved, unfortunately the shave didn't improve it actually got worse. Wondering if the...

Shave Soap Super Butter Shave soap

This is quite interesting and the first I've heard of this-thanks for sharing. I've tried 15% with no problem, perhaps there's a sweet spot and an upper limit where more doesn't equal better.

Shave Soap Super Butter Shave soap

3rd shave, let us again start with a pic: Lather: It took me three tries to get the lather down, today I finally got it in the first shot. It takes quite a load time. I've learned if it looks like enough with this soap go for a bit longer. Also not to shake the brush excessively, ya need a...

Shave Soap Super Butter Shave soap

First test: Initial impressions We'll start with a pic: First lather wasn't the best. Loaded brush and it became apparent in my bowl that I did not load enough first go around. I had to reload after whipping a paltry amount of lather. This soap needs to be loaded a bit more than my previous...

    Shave Soap: Stearic vs. Palmitic

Oof. Debating on whether I want to make 2 more batches opposite the batches I've made yesterday....or just make one more to have an even comparison. Four batches would be an interesting double experiment: SA Batch 1 10% Coconut 10% Castor 60% Hystrene 20% Sunflower SA Batch 2 15% Coconut 5%...

Oh, for crying out loud — 50% off 1oz FOs & 30% off 1oz EOs at CS — where is the face slap emoji?!?

Purposely stayed out of this thread, just checked my cart and everything is back to normal prices....kinda regretting that now lol. For those who have tried CS Orange Blossom and others (Orange Blossom from NG, Citrus Tree from FB) how's it compare? Specifically looking for the soft orange...

Shave Soap Yet Another Shave Soap Thread looking for Advice/opinions Please :)

I'm curious how you got such a nice split b/w stearic and palmitic without a significant amount of oleic. Most butters are quite heavy in oleic. Also curious how your soap goes. How long do you wait in curing? I'm waiting four weeks as it seems proper....but man is it hard lol.

    Shave Soap: Stearic vs. Palmitic

Beside the main ingredient you'll notice a difference in glycerine. I've included only 5 grams for the palmitic soap, and 12.5 g for the stearic soap. The difference is due to the fact that stearic fatty acid does not have glycerine, the additional 7.45 grams I believe covers what the stearic...

    Shave Soap: Stearic vs. Palmitic

Well I gone and did it: This one was a bit more exciting, got my first volcano ever, thankfully I'm working with tiny amounts. Went through the "stages" of hot process right before my eyes, this result is within minutes of pouring in the lye. Soap remained workable however unfortunately I...
