What non-soapy thing did ya do with soap stuff?

Today I made Mac n cheese using sodium citrate. 4 cheese blend of Gouda, Muenster, Swiss, and....cream cheese. Even topped it with breadcrumbs that included parmesan. I subbed in cream cheese as the recipe called for Velveeta which I didn't have. Took foreeeeevvvveeerrrr to incorporate the cream...

    Lowest superfat?

This is a brilliant idea, I might have to borrow it. I don't know why I never thought of doing this on my own with my oils, my castor and glycerin come in nice bottles with flip caps. Is the plastic of the cap of any concern for the lye? I'm dirtying twice as many dishes with oils getting to .01...

SMF Challenge November 2021 - Rainbows

I forgot to add a good size to look for is about 24-27 mm which will give enough lather. There's some big honkin brushes, but they end up creating more wasted lather.

SMF Challenge November 2021 - Rainbows

I don't sell my soap (yet?) nor brushes, however synthetic brushes (super not evil lol) have come a long way. I personally use a RazoRock Plissoft synthetic brush from Italian Barber. The Chinese brand Yaqi has quite a following on some shave boards and they are very reasonably priced. West...

SMF Challenge November 2021 - Rainbows

How about this for a challenge idea-Second Chance Challenge? Maybe its time for the resurrection of the "Unchallenge"? Pick any previous challenge you entered or not, following all the rules of that challenge. Could be a missed challenge, a flop, a technique you want to perfect under pressure...

I'm imagining the intruder as the inimitable Kenny Powers:

Shave Soap A Paste-style Shave Soap Success!

Tis very good stuff Prof. I particularly enjoy not having to load so much and getting going with the lather. There aren't many artisan made very soft shave soaps or pastes that I'm aware of out there (haven't tried RazoRock's yet). Most are in tubes, which I'm not a huge fan of but others seem...

can't hang on to soap when using it

I'm not sure what your "too complex" threshold is, but have you considered making liquid soap? It'd work *with* what your Mom's used to and heck you can gain a new skill in the mean time.

    Where is our reality show?

I'm imagining conversations like this for "West Coast Soapers": -You put dirt in shave soap?! -Its called bentonite and it's for slip! -Dirt dulls blades! -Doesn't shaving already dull them??? -Use glycerin!!!

    Sodium Lactate, first time using-advice?

Thanks guys for emphasizing the heated ingredients and tools. That's the kind of thing I'd forget after watching and reading a ton of things.

    Sodium Lactate, first time using-advice?

Yes, it is hot process, dang it I thought I covered all my background bases. Thanks for sussing that out, that must have been a confusing goal for those reading who work with cold process. 🤣 "At trace"....with hot process....lol. *Post cook*, thank you again RO. I found a video (skip to about...

    Sodium Lactate, first time using-advice?

Good to know, thanks for the heads up. I have read of the pouring benefits, but never considered the implication that it might not look "done" when it's done.

    Sodium Lactate, first time using-advice?

Hello all, I've got the hang of using sodium citrate for my chelator and would like to start using sodium lactate for pourability and other benefits. In my reading I've come across accounts of rubbery soap and other issues and understand that using multiple salts can be a bit of a gamble. I'm...

I did not confess why our dishwasher broke

This is great. I really hate using paper towels as I seem to go through a TON every batch. I'll keep my eye open for MF towels next trip to the dollar store.

    Understanding superfat

Do you have an implant in my head or something? I swear I have neither written nor spoke about this to anyone but I've been *dying* to get around to using tht exact ingredient as superfat lol! I was especially interested in it after finding out meadowfoam has almost no major fatty acids-FCO is...

    Soap stone mold quantity?

I was wondering something similar, those things are shiny! I suspected some marketing trickery personally. If its M&P, heck doesn't all M&P start off the same way as any other soap+PG, glycerin, etc? I'm sure we can do it without buying a base.
