    Hard and Soft Oils Ratio

Alcohol causes acceleration/seizing, and if the FO was for M&P, it wouldn't list it's effects on CP. I'm honestly surprised you got your colorants mixed in as well as you did. Literally every ingredient in your soap increased acceleration, so I would be extremely proud that your soap turned out...

    HP + CP Hybrid

Also, to clarify: my method is to start with my CO, Castor, and whatever else is there for longevity. Turn that to vaseline, then add liquid oils and whatever else remains, heat the combined mixture back up to above 160°f so it's hot enough to gel, and then you can fragrance it, divide it, color...

    HP + CP Hybrid

I do a HP/CP hybrid but using a microwave, HOWEVER: you have to use a lot of water to keep the soap workable while the first bit goes to vaseline (too little water = dry silly putty). Also, IME the second batch of oils has to be heated once it's added to get the batter to be smooth. It does make...

Why isn't everyone adding Castor oil late in hot-process LS cooking?

@ResolvableOwl yes, thank you clarifying! I think we're on the same page as far as the results and implications.

Why isn't everyone adding Castor oil late in hot-process LS cooking?

I don't make LS so I don't have a horse in this race, I'm just fascinated by the science- what about a 99% coconut oil soap, or whatever actually makes nice LS, then 2% castor? Or has that experiment been tried already, and my brain just missed it?

    hi friends

The MAX fragrance you would add to soap..

Hmm.. I thought I replied earlier, but maybe it got deleted for some reason? Or I only thought I posted it? Anyways, putting not-soap into soap seems to start messing with the lather and the bar texture at 5-10% and goes downhill from there. Different FOs have different viscosities as they are...

    Just found Grandmother's soap recipe

So, are you advocating a ratio of 2:2:1 oil: water: NaOH? Or are you advocating a ratio of 6:2:1 oil: water: NaOH? It's a little hard to tell what percentage or ratio of NaOH as the batch you're referring to since lye can mean multiple things, and you switch to NaOH at the end.

Thread titles and my very strange mind.

"Laundry Detergent Consumption" Please, don't eat laundry detergent! Any of it, of any type! I thought we all learned that was demonstrably bad with the Tide Pod Challenge like, 2?.. years ago? Anyways, laundry detergent. It's bad for human consumption.

    Sodium Lactate in 'slow' recipe?

Sorry if this has already been suggested, but what about lowering the lye concentration to 28% (increasing the liquid)? The top layer would warp a little as it cures, but it might anyways if you're changing recipes. If you were doing a whole loaf, overheating could be a concern at that...

Soap soft and olive oil color in mold after 24 hours

It is reasonable to expect anyone making an absolute statement to explain it. I was inviting you to share evidence, and defend the universality of your numerous statements. You clearly knew you would be disagreed with by numerous soapers, so it seemed very reasonable to expect you to have...

What kind of technic to make such pattern? I attached pictures to my post.

I would feel more confident if I could see the other surfaces, and much depends on the cut for all these, but here are my guesses: The one on the left looks like it might be One Pot Wonder, and both Tree Marie Soapworks and I Dream In Soap on YouTube have tutorials for that technique. The one on...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I've had good results adding them dry, even including water-soluble TD. I wouldn't recommend using very much oil, if any. The more material you add, the harder it is to keep it from squeezing out/off of the dough. Oil keeps dough from sticking together as well, which would make kneading even...

What soapy thing have you done today?

You can add more colorant to your dough and knead it in. It's a little messy, but it's do-able.

Soap soft and olive oil color in mold after 24 hours

Soaping that hot makes it far more likely that your batch will overheat and separate in the mold, since the soap heats up as it continues to saponify. Conventional wisdom is 85-95°f for a lot of reasons, so I'd love to know why it is "absolutely essential" to soap at least 40° hotter than that...

    Monk fruit in lip balm

Ok, tried another batch with infusing monk fruit in my butters as well as my oils, and I'm absolutely thrilled. There does seem to be a limit to how much sweetness the oils/butters will carry, but it's definitely sweet. I put like nearly a tsp of monk fruit in 66g oils/butters (1/8tsp monk fruit...

I Don't Even Know Where to Start or how to react

Honestly, this sounds like a sweet but unstable/unmedicated BPD individual (like Carrie from the TV show Homeland, but without being right about everything). If possible, you might look into finding out what the maggots eat, for your own peace of mind. If they're just munching paper and fabric...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Yes! I sometimes use colored pencils to draw my design and figure out what color scheme I actually want. Also, I love coming up with new recipes. The possibility of it all, the reliability of math, the (slight) mystery of what it will actually be like... It might wear off eventually, but I'll...

    Handmade Soap and Health Claims

I totally agree with not giving disinformation a platform. Also, I have a sister who is a nurse, a sister who is a chiropractor and does alternative therapy, and a sister-in-law pharmacist, and this type of stuff drives me bonkers. Natural/traditional medical malpractice gives natural medicine...
