Why is my CP soap loaf sticky?

I recommend lowering castor to 10% and using a 1.7:1 or 1.8:1 lye:water ratio. As for where to pass the 5% on to, gosh, that’s a tough call. With such a high percentage of cocoa butter, my preference would be to add it to the coconut oil. High cocoa butter may make your soap require a lot of...

    Tallow Soap

Where do you source your fat? I’ve considered approaching the butcher at my favorite supermarket and asking if they have beef fat they might consider passing my way.

What soapy thing have you done today?

What a delightful story to share! To have your grandson experience a market as a seller and pocket the fruits of his labor. Much-cherished memory to relive with him in the future. ❤️

    Devious by Nurture Soaps

I’ve soaped with NS’s Devious. I recall slight acceleration. Have not soaped with it since (only because I used it for a batch for my mom who no longer likes the scent 🤪). My advice would be to soap at room temperature, sick blend to emulsion, hand stir the FO in with a spatula to very light trace.

Can Stearic Spots appear after cutting bars?

Try heating the solid fats up to around 160-180 and see if you get different results.

Can Stearic Spots appear after cutting bars?

How hot do you get your solid fats to when you melt them?

Can Stearic Spots appear after cutting bars?

Are you saying heated your fats up to a maximum of 98 degrees to melt? What solids fats do you use?

Can Stearic Spots appear after cutting bars?

What stage was your batter when you poured? Emulsion? Light trace? Medium trace?

'Old Reliable' or 'Core' Cold Process Recipes

Not necessarily. Personally, I enjoy playing around with recipes. It’s 50% of what I enjoy about cold process soap making. The bigger point is that you can use any bar of soap for different uses. I will say that I would not use cold process soap on my hair. And I say this as someone who uses...

'Old Reliable' or 'Core' Cold Process Recipes

Also, make small batches (very small batches) of the recipes you noted and use them after a three month cure. That’s the only way to determine if you like a particular recipe. Soap-making is a very experiential craft. I can’t know the qualities of a soap batch without first making it and...

'Old Reliable' or 'Core' Cold Process Recipes

Thing is, it’s not necessary to have different recipes for specific uses. I use soap pieces to wash dishes. All different formulas jumbled together. Each one does a fine job of washing my dishes (and cleans my stainless steel sink spectacularly well).

How long have you been soaping? Or Happy Soap-A-Versary to me

I have not. Because I can’t find the box that the soap is in. 😂 It’s in this house…somewhere. Yes, a lot of effort was involved in the making of the design. Very ambitious as a new soap maker.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Update on lather: @AliOop Retested the 100% beef tallow LS. VERY creamy, big bubbles, hands feel really soft after drying. Makes me curious about making a 100% beef tallow batch of cold process soap. 💡

What soapy thing have you done today?

The lather is so-so. My purpose in making 100% tallow is because I have a lot of it and it’s I expensive. Used just 500g of and and am surprised how large the batch is finished. What I find satisfying about the process was that I could basically forget about for a few hours (or days).

What soapy thing have you done today?

Made my very first batch of LS. Learned a lot. Thrilled to have tried something new and different. 100% tallow. The big reveal of cutting cold process soap is obviously missing from the experience.

My first batch of liquid soap!

What a fun project. 100% tallow. Can’t wait to play around with different recipes. Hello, new rabbit hole. 😜

Thank you! it was a good way to use up fragrance oils that are just-so on their own.
