    Latest Update on Cheryl

Well, she is back in the hospital. This is a nightmare... 😭 😭 My fright of running out of money to care for her is quickly coming to reality. On a slight positive side we got the flooring installed in our new house and take up our first load next week. Sadly, no garage in the near future. 😭 😭

That is so nerve-wracking. My granddaughter just got her driving permit. It makes me so nervous with all the high-speed roads in Northern NV

    goat milk powder

I always SB GM powder into my oils and I always use Gm powder versus liquid GM. I find it so much easier to use. Plus the fact I soap with vinegar so milk powders are easier to use.

How are you offsetting the cost of Olive Oil?

I am so glad I retired from selling back during Covid, it is just about impossible to make money any more and I was selling to make money not a hobby. I noticed that 50 lbs of lard is now $63.99 and I used to pay $36.00. Tallow shortening was around $96 the last time I saw it there, I used to...

Complacency Leads to Soap on a Stick

Those uncolored lumps are most likely where the color did not mix. After cure her soap will be fine. Anytime soap batter goes soap on a stick just cover the container walk away for a while and wait for it to start saponification (gel phase) it will thin enough to stir quickly and pour into your...

    I made a mistake today

Jasmine and Ylang Ylang are both notorious for overheating, accelerating, and ricing. In other words, they are all notorious problem EO and Fragrance oils. You can rebatch in the oven in a stainless steel pan, which is my preferred way to rebatch, or an old enamel Dutch oven. I say old because...

    How does this look???

Another thing you can try, but this takes a few months is either a high 70% shea butter bar or a 100% Almond Oil Bar. The problem with 100% Almond Oil soaps is the min 6-month cure before you will get even a hint of lather with a year cure the best, and the same goes for the 70% Shea Bar...

Maybe you need to read this article about babassu. https://climatechampions.unfccc.int/reviving-brazils-babassu-a-sustainable-alternative-to-imported-palm-oil/. Babassu is still your best choice for deodorant unless you never wear light clothing. You definitely risk ruining clothing due to...

Need a bit of recipe help. Need more lather

What has no effect? If you are talking about Sorbitol it is not just my opinion. I would guess I have made as many soaps as you in all my years of making and selling.

Need a bit of recipe help. Need more lather

Powdered sugar is white sugar mixed with cornstarch. Side by side test I find Sorbitol helps lather better than sugar. I also found clay in soap tended to suppress lather.

    Fragrance oil seperation

As DeeAnna mentioned overheating is the most likely answer. Also if you are using Lavender FO it could contribute to heating and the same with Lilac. Floral FO's are notorious for accelerating and can overheating. Coconut FO's are one of the worst when it comes to overheating. I also never had...

New soaper in need of encouragement... and advice. Thanks in advance!

This is the reason we tell new soapmakers to spend a year or two testing before selling. When I first started soaping I had a few issues with spots of dos appearing on some soaps, after lots of trials I determined my superfat had a lot to do with it. When I started out it was the belief you...

Need a bit of recipe help. Need more lather

This recipe is very similar in profile to my go-to recipe although I use a tallow/lard combination with 17% CO. I use EDTA/Sodium Gluconate total 1% batch weight as a chelator, with a 2% superfat, dual lye, 1.1% total batch weight of Sorbitol, and a 33% lye concentration. I also age my soaps at...

Sun Pure Botanicals - Not a Happy Camper

I ordered again from them about 4 months ago and my order came quickly as they always have. The quality of the eo's I ordered were as good as they always have been. I never ordered all my eo's from Sun Pure but some of theirs such as their Tea Tree Oil has always been nice.
