Soaps causing skin problem on hands

You should TOTALLY make your own cold process soap!! It's night and day compared to store bought. Listen, I got into this as a creativity outlet. I was completely caught off guard by the dramatic improvement in the health of my and my family's skin. Previously I had spent a fortune on...

    My Second Soap

Really pretty soap there. I can't make decent tops! And by "My Second Soap" you mean "My Second Soap Today After A Decade of Experience"?!

So I made my first mountain soap

As for the oozing, can you give us details on your colorants and scents? I've had essential oils ooze before -- but over the course of curing, it gets re-absorbed. The first couple time it freaked me out. Wow, man, incredible work!! Your landscapes are amazing. Thanks for sharing the...

    Buffer Face & Body Bar

My gardener/mechanic soap has coffee grounds, poppy seeds, and shredded loofah. I'm barefoot a lot and the soap does the trick. Good luck,

:secret:Psst, that soaper was last seen here May 2020.

    bubbles is my soap

What @Ford said. I'm pretty aggressive after pouring batter into my molds. I'll pick it up 2 inches off the counter and drop it. Your soap looks nice. Whenever I get an unexpected result, I call it "rustic."

Tried to make a lotion bar

Good for you! Lotion bars are easy and inexpensive to make. I use these molds for my lotion bars. I think they are for cake pops. https://www.michaels.com/product/pops-mold-by-celebrate-it-10103269 . My bars are hard and melt when they touch the skin. Harder than chap stick. Even my bud in...

    is it possible ?

I appreciate the shout-out. For longtime members, this will sound like a broken record. But maybe for some new forum-ers, it'll help. For DECADES I had dry and rashy skin. In the U.S. Midwest winter, my fingertips would crack and bleed. I literally used Super-Glu on my fingertips...

    Lotion bar best oils?

I wish I could help ya but I've never used cetyl alcohol. I'm so glad you made a batch you like. Unlike soap, lotion bars are easy to re-melt and adjust accordingly.

    Curiosity about lotion bars

@cmzaha , I love all that detail. Kokum butter is pretty darn awesome. @Barefoot Farm Girl , I have exclusively used beeswax so can't help you there. Once I tweaked until I found the right recipe, I haven't experimented further. Plus now that Zing Junior AKA @Sting is a beekeeper, I have a...

    is it possible ?

Uf da, I am exhausted from this constant paging to the front desk! I love my lotion bars on my hands and other dry parts. They really have saved my fingers that literally cracked and bled every winter. I also use it on dry parts of my scalp. My good bud uses it daily on his face which...

    Lotion bar best oils?

I would definitely replace the coconut oil. Using mango butter was a gamechanger because it soaks in quickly and doesn't leave my hands feeling greasy. Rice bran oil is nice on the skin as would sweet almond oil and apricot kernel. Or experiment with all 3! Your base recipe is what I use --...

    Cement craft

The mechanic's soap is mine. I cropped out a labeled soap that @Sting made for his aunt and uncle.

    Cement craft

Good eye. I purposely turned it upside down, didn't mean to cause you any pain. I only wanted to see you laughing in the purple rain.

    Cement craft

A few years ago, I made cement leaves using hosta leaves. I painted them and gave them as Christmas gifts that year. Mrs. Zing just visited her sister and discovered they use it as a soap dish!

What soapy thing have you done today?

Ermagerd, I've been away too long, sooo many pages to catch up on and so little time. Mrs. Zing is leaving for two weeks, like the longest we've ever been separated. She's joining her sister and her husband who organize an annual habitat for humanity-esque type of work/volunteer camp. So I...

Should I buy a new scale?

Wait, are you one of those daredevils living life on the edge who pours all oils directly into ONE pot?!

Should I buy a new scale?

You are over-thinking this. :) Your current scale is fine. When I first started, I used ounces. Then my OCD for accuracy took over and I switched to grams which are already waay smaller than ounces so I feel like I'm weighing more precisely now. If I have a recipe that calls for fractions...
