    Zing Junior's first batch

The beeswax is slightly off-white/yellowish but only 3%. The color of the soap is mainly due to using red palm oil. Not sure if you all had Dial soap down under but red palm oil soap always reminds me of old school Dial soap.

    a delayed thank you

    LMAO!!

    Zing Junior's first batch

Zing, Jr. is so pumped and can't wait to share his soap with his beekeeping coworkers. He said this is an exercise in delayed gratification waiting on the cure. LOL, he says he may join the forum and take the username Sting!

    Zing Junior's first batch

Yeah, my first batches were, how to say, rustic.

I used a dog bone shaped cookie cutter!!

    Zing Junior's first batch

Made with Zing Junior's own beeswax and honey. Ta Da! Scent: orange and patchouli essential oils. The color is from red palm oil.

    a delayed thank you

Speaking of eating gifts. One Christmas I gave all the neighbor dogs homemade baked dog treats. One neighbor's preschooler twins got into the bag first and started eating and complaining about the awful cookies and so the parents also took bites and spit it out. Our neighbors thought, hmm...

    a delayed thank you

I don't know if anyone will appreciate this story without knowing the players but I'll share anyway! Two weeks ago, I went to a work party and gave my boss a gift bag of soaps, lotion bars, and lip balms. I gave it to her and truly did not give it a second thought and went on with my life...

Is 5 % pine tar enough in soap ?

Pine tar is on the list of oils and butters on lye calculators but it does not saponify. Good luck -- it is tricky to work with!

    New Soap

    I want to eat it.

    First castile

Welcome to the Forum! Is this your first soap? It looks great. Hey, just a word of caution. I use distilled water to avoid minerals and other unknown tiny things that may affect the soap negatively. Keep the photos coming!

    Soy Based Butters

My only concern is typing the correct substance into the lye calculator. In general I save my expensive ingredients for leave-on products. I do know some sellers will include small amounts of expensive ingredients in soap for label appeal.

Would you do it? Use more of a particular EO than is recommended? Any other recommendations?

Bee balm, monarda, is a flower. Awesome blooms in early July that look like fireworks.

    Non greasy lotion bar????

LOL, it's been years and years since those original posts but I'll add my 2 cents anyway in case others are interested. By far the biggest game changer in cleaning up after a lotion bar session was getting silicone measuring cups! I use them as a double boiler to melt everything. After...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Oh, peeps, peeps, PEEPS! I just finished a session with Zing, Jr.!! This morning he says, wanna make soap today, Dad? Uh, twist my arm! He's the beekeeper and he wanted to use his beeswax and honey. I said each of those ingredients are advanced techniques, are you sure? He likes to...

    3rd Attempt at an ombre

Stunning and elegant work there! Nice! Great colors.

Would you do it? Use more of a particular EO than is recommended? Any other recommendations?

Way to go on your second batch! I trust and abide by eocalc.com no questions asked. Because of fading, I always use their 4-5% amounts, if they're in the green zone of course. I hear ya on basil! I'm a gardener and love it -- and my bee balm smells like basil. I was very disappointed in the...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Awhile ago I subbed in Rice Bran Oil for olive oil and have never looked back. RBO feels great on skin and my soap isn't slimy anymore. Just FYI.
