    Next Experiment

Here's a list I ran across when double checking if coconut oil is comedogenic that I felt was worth sharing http://www.acne.org/comedogenic-list.html

    Lavender Goat's Milk

I'm at work so I hope this image posts properly. This is a Lavender Goat's Milk I did last week. My first attempt at this I did a pencil line and tried to keep the layers level. This time I didn't concern myself with level layers and skipped the pencil line. I like this much better! The...

    Substitute for Tallow?

I'm a few days behind on threads but I can't pass this one without saying I love lard also! It's a greasy little four letter word but oh how it does wonders in soaps!

    EO's from ED?

I have tried 3 different fragrances from them, Vanilla, Jasmine and Coffee Bean. The Jasmine and Vanilla were purchased at the same time, the coffee bean was almost a year later, so far they are 0 for 3 in my book. I have not been happy with any of them. I have a couple people that I trust to...

Cigar Bands - Over or Around?

I do horizontal because my tops are seldom ever level. Of course if you wrap them too soon the bands come off easily. I believe a shrink wrap system is in my future!

    Making a soap mold

Ah, ok, I completely misunderstood what you were planning. That's above my level as I use a very basic mold that I can build for under $10 and line with freezer paper. I simply lift mine out and seldom if ever even have to loosen a bolt to get the loaf out

Ginger Essential Oil vs Fresh Ginger

Well after reading the responses and reasoning I decided to go with a ginger EO over fresh ginger. Since I didn't have ginger EO at the time I decided I would go ahead and do a carrot soap with honey and oatmeal. After I juiced the carrots I came to the realization that I already had ginger...

Ginger Essential Oil vs Fresh Ginger

Lion of Judah, thanks for the input, with all I am being told, I am thinking HP may be the way to go with this one.

Ginger Essential Oil vs Fresh Ginger

Paillo, I made a test batch of coconut milk and banana on Jan 24. I used fresh banana in it and hot processed it. The hot process was not planned by the way, after about 30 minutes in the mold the sugars obviously started causing problems as it was heating up way too much, way too fast. In to...

Ginger Essential Oil vs Fresh Ginger

Paillo, did the fresh ginger retain any of its fragrance? The soap I am contemplating will be a carrot & ginger soap where I also plan to juice fresh carrots. I am thinking the orange will help offset the dark coloration as well.

Hold my hand as we explore the pigpen...(lard soap)

I use a lot of lard in my soaps, nearly every recipe I have incorporates lard into it with exception of a few. I am blessed to have a meat processor close to me where I get my lard which has been fresh processed and I get it in quantity cheap. I also do a lot of baking by the way and fresh...

Ginger Essential Oil vs Fresh Ginger

I have been reading of how beneficial ginger is to the skin and I am contemplating incorporating ginger in to a soap recipe. I am weighing between using a ginger essential oil and fresh ginger. I would like to run the ginger through my juicer and use the fresh juice in the soap. To me I gain...

Buying a cutter...help with bar size

Mine is made by Cumberland Acoustics, best investment I ever made. I looked at Bud's, I didn't have anything that really stood out to me that I didn't like, just liked the one I ordered better. I went with a 1" but wish I would've went 1 1/4", as the thicker bar would allow for shrinkage...

    Anyone use Brambleberry's 40/42 lavender e.o.

Not a typo at all, I use around 20 ml in 2000 grams of oils. I have bars that are well cured and still have great scent to them. I will add that I don't like a heavy scent in my soaps but I do like to smell the scent and I have found I get a good balance at this level, not too heavy, not to light.

    Customer reaction to LAAARD !!

They won't use a soap made with lard but will drink kopi luwak. Figure that one out! I proudly use lard in the majority of my soaps.
