    Using an essential oil diffuser

Huh. This leads me to wonder, what is the difference between EOs and FOs? Why does the former fade and the latter does not?

    Using an essential oil diffuser

Ok, my third batch of gorgeous goat milk soap is dusted with soda ash. I think I need to accept this is the reality when I am making *only* goat milk soap and doing all I can to keep it *cool* in the processing. I definitely prefer the non-gel look. So I am resigning myself to soda ash being...

Another Newbie Q about Liquid Dish Soap

Ok, another one. I am also interested in making liquid dish soap. First, I see mostly talk about making dish soap bars, as though that is preferred. Is that because they don't need some sort of container to sell in? What about if this is just for personal use, is there some reason to prefer a...

    Newbie Question about LS thickness

Okay, maybe this is a really dumb question (I am about to attempt making goat milk LS for the first time, found a "cold process" method I am interested in trying that involves curing the paste in a jar for a couple weeks, but doesn't scorch the goat milk). I hear talk of LS being thin and...

What makes a good shampoo bar?

Ok, so a shampoo bar that, like soap, uses a raised pH to clean hair, is dangerous to fine hair like mine. Well poop. :/ (I still want to give it a try. As you said, hair grows back. I am nothing if not a curious soul, bend on experimentation. 😊 Maybe I can follow it up with a gentle acid...

What makes a good shampoo bar?

I am interested in infusing some herbs into oils for soap that I already know I like on my skin and are also supposed to be good for hair. It got me thinking that I would love for this bar to be able to serve as a shampoo bar. I understand shampoo bars are a bit controversial. Some people find...

    Newbie Question about mold size

    Ok, got it. :)

    Newbie Question about mold size

    So... 10 1/4 in x 2 3/4 in x 3 3/8 in x .4 = 38.3? What are the units of 38.3?

    Newbie Question about mold size

Hey, y'all. So much to learn and figure out. I have a question about matching mold size to recipe. If, for example, a mold says it is a 3lb mold, does that refer to the weight of the entire soap batch or just the fats? The reason I ask is that the SoapCalc website speaks of the weight of the...

What is the difference between rebatcing and melt and pour?

Thank you, TheGecko, that is very generous and helpful. 😊 Truly, buying melt and pour would not serve my needs. If melt and pour bases with my own goat milk were easy to make in bulk, I would have a non-perishable way to store my goat milk that I would use later. Since making large batches of...

What is the difference between rebatcing and melt and pour?

I am coming from being a dairy farmer before being a soap-maker. I am interested in uses for the milk I am already producing. When I first learned about soapmaking, I considered making bulk goat milk melt and pour. I have since come to see that this is not feasible. Even so, I am curious and...

What is the difference between rebatcing and melt and pour?

Thank you so much! This is very helpful information. Would this be because grating it finely and adding the right amount of liquid gets it almost as pourable as the melt and pour bases achieve through their use of glycerin, stable alcohols, and other chemicals?

What is the difference between rebatcing and melt and pour?

Good to know! Still am curious about the process. :)

What is the difference between rebatcing and melt and pour?

Thank you for this information. Does anyone know how to make their own melt and pour base? When I was first learning about it, I had no idea that this is absolutely not how soap actually behaves, that it can never be melted to a smooth, pourable consistency again.

What is the difference between rebatcing and melt and pour?

I found a mention that melt & pour has a high glycerin content. I saw another person claim there were strange liquids and detergents in it, but no information to back this up.

What is the difference between rebatcing and melt and pour?

To specify, what is the difference between rebatching a soap you have poured into a mold but has a problem, so you want to rebatch it, and using a melt and pour base to make a soap? It seems like when you rebatch, you never get as smooth a pour as the first time. Is that the case with a melt...

Apparently I just can't help myself...

I may have made a mistake when tweaking the numbers to try and get the lard to equal exactly what I had. It looks like I should have put in 23.04 oz coconut oil, not 22.04. It was my intention to have %2 superfat by the reciple (with the goat milk adding extra) not %0. I am not sure what happened.

Apparently I just can't help myself...

According to SoapCalc, I ran both batches at %2 superfat because I am using Nigerian Dwarf goat milk which can be as high as %10 fat. I realize that the practice is to simply replace the water with goat milk, but I am adding a liquid that has a lot of solids in it, fat as well as carbs and...
