Hello! Are you familiar with Aroma Zone? I buy from them frequently and really like them www.aroma-zone.com. What's the name of the town you live in? I spend my summers in Valence - not too far from Montpelier. Carolyn

Tussah silk in liquid soap - question about unusual texture

I tried Tussah silk in my liquid soap this week (dissolved a small amount in my lye water). I noticed two things were different. 1. the paste was more resistant than normal to diluting 2. after dilution and neutralizing the final texture seemed somewhat different. It was like warm honey...

Hello from Greece! Question about natural colors

Zajcek I would like to make a tincture with kidney vetch for use in an anti-itch gel. But I can't find any in the states. So I'll need to find a substitute herb. Lucky you to have such great herbs to pick!!! We just moved to a brand new house and I don't even have plantain growing in my yard!

Zajcek - where did you purchase your kidney vetch? I've been looking for some and can have it shipped to family in Europe. Thanks!

So I decided to make some soap tonight...

What a night! You might consider using freezer paper - shiny side to soap - instead of wax paper. The soap won't seep through or absorb like with wax paper. You can buy freezer paper at any grocery store; it's with the aluminum foil and plastic wrap.

    Olive Oils...

I keep the EVOO for salads. It is too expensive for me to use in soap and I would rather eat it! I use the regular olive oil for soaping and I avoid the pomace completely. I believe pomace olive oil may be chemically extracted from the remaining pits and skins after all other pressings have...

Iflyenia thank you so much! I didn't wish for you to spend hours looking - but thank you! I couldn't find suppliers either :( I've scoured every natural and organic store, middle eastern store and also pharmacies here in the French town I am in with no such luck. I can buy the Aleppo soap...

    Newbie Questions

Dotty - first I want to congratulate you on doing your homework before jumping in! Personally I would do a very simple batch for starters. Wait before trying layers and colors and scents and swirling. First learn the technique. Regarding a simple recipe: try olive oil 50%, coconut oil 20%...

    Bay Laurel Oil in cp

Irishlass is correct about the difference between the fatty oil and the essential oil. I have never heard of the oil being toxic, though. Here in France many people use Aleppo soap. It can have a smell that some people find unpleasant. I would love to make soap with laurel bay berry oil...

    HELP!!!

Hello! I used to make a similar version of laundry detergent. I used it for nearly a year and while my clothes were clean, my whites became irreversibly gray. No amount of bleach or other detergent could render them white again. My water is hard and that may have contributed to the grayness...
