Why so much DOS? Help please!

Thanks for the kind words about my soaps. I think they turned out pretty too, which makes this all the more frustrating! I typically disperse my TD and other colorants in sweet almond oil, if that makes any difference. Thanks to everyone for all he ideas...I will try to go over everything...

    What is this??? (with pics)

Is there a reason they would only appear in the brown soap?

    What is this??? (with pics)

If you look at the brown part of the bars, you will see clear lines...what are these? Same recipe and FO for both the green and brown, but only the brown has the lines? Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

Why so much DOS? Help please!

Here is a pic of three different soaps of different color and fragrances. With the lavender one, I cut back on the castor oil and added Shea butter. Still got DOS. The only common denominator I can find is the recipe, and the fact that it tend to appear where I used TD. The soaps are probably...

Why so much DOS? Help please!

I know there are a ton of threads on DOS, but I am so puzzled because I just discovered SEVERAL of my soaps have DOS. For the life of me, I a cannot figure out the culprit. Most of the recipes are Soap Queen's Lots of Lather recipe...different colorants and fragrances. My oils are fresh...all...

    Sugar glitter use?

I love the look of sugar pearls and have used them several times without a problem. However, the last time I used them, I uncovered my soap loaf to find they had melted into a gooey yellowish mess on top of my soap...little dollops of yellow goo melted into the soap. So, I would say be careful...

    Help with Purple

Grrr...I just tried to buy the purple from the Conservatorie and found out the have a $50 minimum order. Soooo...I would love it if some folks could give me some color recommendations that they have used from the Conservatorie that are good and stable in cp soap. If I am going to buy $50 worth...

    Help with Purple

Thanks newbie...I haven't tried any of the Conservatorie's products yet, so maybe I will give that a try. The reviews on their website are also good for it being stable in cp soap. Thank goodness I made this in a small test batch instead of my usual 5 lb batch. My husband and kids have soooo...

    Help with Purple

Hmmm...that gives me hope that maybe a miracle will happen overnight and I will find a beautiful purple shade when I unmold! Pink coral definitely isn't what I was going for. Thanks for sharing!

    Help with Purple

I am hoping someone might be ale to help me achieve a nice, deep purple that stays true to color in CP soap. I tried an ITP swirl with white, black, and purple, but my purple morphed to a pinkish coral color when I added the FO (black raspberry vanilla). I'll see what it looks like tomorrow when...

    Water Temp

Thanks to everyone for sharing...I will use cold water in hopes of cutting down on some of the wait time

    Water Temp

This is probably a dumb and obvious question, but can I use cold water to make my lye water? I always keep my jug of distiller water sitting out at room temp, but the lye water takes FOREVER to cool. Is there any reason I can't keep the water jug in the fridge? Would it help speed up the...

    Will they melt?

Thanks for the advice...I will try just insulating around the sides. I have never not covered the top...will it still gel all the way through?

    Will they melt?

I would like to place some melt and pour raspberries on top of a CP raspberry scented soap loaf. I am concerned about whether they will melt from the heat? I would hate to uncover to find a melted mess on top of an otherwise beautiful loaf of soap! I thought I had read somewhere about letting...

    Soap Getting Ver Dark

I made a soap loaf scented with a mocha coffee fragrance, which I understand contains vanilla and darkens soap. I added about 1 tsp cappuccino mica to 4 lbs of soap batter, along with the FO. In hindsight, I should have skipped the mica altogether because I think the FO would have darkened...

    How much do you vary?

I find myself always trying new CP recipes...some I like, others I don't. I am wondering if I am spreading myself too thin (and wasting too much time, supplies, etc.!). I was wondering if most established CP soap makers generally stick with one recipe (altered with fragrance/color/etc) or do...

    How to Handle Big Tops

Thanks danahuff...when you use the freezer method, what temps are you soaping at? I usually mix my lye water and oils around 120 degrees. Should I let these cool down more before mixing? Hmmm...to cover with a box and insulate, or try the freezer next time...wish I had a crystal ball :-)

    How to Handle Big Tops

I am fairly new to cp soap, but I have been having good luck and loving it so far! My latest project is a 2 lb loaf with tall, elaborate piping to decorate the top. My base recipe is 40% olive oil, 20% coconut oil, 20% palm oil, 9% avacado oil, 9% Shea butter, and 2% jojoba oil. Since I can't...
