    Issue with Soap Seizing

I haven’t had it long, a couple months, but don’t know how old it was before that. I ordered it off the world wide internets, but I don’t think it was from one of the known good suppliers. It was subjected to some fairly warm temps for a couple of weeks until I moved it. Probably a combination...

    Issue with Soap Seizing

Has anyone experienced your CP soap seizing due to palm oil? I have used the Royalty soap recipe for several batches with no problems, but recently changed to a different brand of palm oil and my last 4-5 batches have all gone to trace immediately and I've ended up with soap on a stick. I can't...

    Soap workshop frustration

No good deed goes unpunished. I’m sorry for your experience with this tacky organization. I had something a bit similar happen, although certainly not to your extent. I volunteered to donate commemorative soaps for a ceremony at my church, mainly to try a bespoke order and generate some...

Please tell me about salt bars

I made my salt bars using the recipe from Becky Zepeda in the May/June issue of Willow and Sage. 84% coconut oil 8% almond oil 8% cocoa butter Water to lye ratio was 1.2 to 1 Sea salt was about 44% of the weight of the oils, and added at trace. I used round and oval cavity molds and the soap...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Thanks, I will check it out. The ph was somewhere between 8-9 color-wise, but most of my test strip experience has been with pool water, not soap.

Where did you learn to soap?

I’d been doing M&P for years but was afraid to to cold process, but I made a New Year’s resolution this year to try it. I watched about a bazillion YouTube videos, mainly Lisa from I Dream in Soap, Holly, from Holly’s Soapmaking, and Elly from Elly’s Everyday Soapmaking. I also bought a couple...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Yay, me! I got soap on a stick today! My own fault, of course. Took a proven soap recipe and added a mixture of unproven sample fragrance oils. I quickly threw the SOAS into a pot and hot processed it to a decent texture and a ph of 8. The soap smells great and looks awful! We’ll see what...

    Coffee Fragrance Oil

Thank you, everyone, for your recommendations!

    Coffee Fragrance Oil

I made mocha soap again with the Fresh Brewed Coffee FO, but also added about a third of the total of Caramel Latte and Hazelnut FO by Makesy (had some to use up). It smells fantastic!

Does anyone add Titanium dioxide directly to lye water?

I didn’t. Like you, I don’t have a dedicated blender (yet). I may try sifting the TD first (if I can remember to do it) 🤦‍♀️.

Does anyone add Titanium dioxide directly to lye water?

Both the bottles of TD end up with clumps, but the water IS worse. I end up having to run a chopstick around the bottom to dislodge what’s settled; the bolts don’t break it up as much as I’d hoped (got the tip from Lisa of I Dream in Soap but it hasn’t worked as well for me as it apparently does...

    Coffee Fragrance Oil

I made CP soap and used Fresh Brewed Coffee FO by Nature’s Garden and added unsweetened cocoa powder as a colorant. The scent ended up with a weird undertone of what I can describe only as “chemical”. I used the recommended medium scent percentage. Has anyone else had this experience? What are...

Does anyone add Titanium dioxide directly to lye water?

I recently made up two squeeze bottles of TD, one with water and one with oil. I put three small hardware nuts in the bottle to break up the clumpy TD on the bottom. Last batch of soap I made, I added the TD to the lye water and had no issues with spotting at all. Will see what happens with the...

    Suggestions for using Eucalyptus Lemon?

I wish cat pee was a mosquito repellent. I have a great source for it. 😆

What soapy thing have you done today?

I saw a YouTube video of a pink camo soap. It looked great! I’ve got several jars of red and purple botanical colorants marinating so I’ll definitely do one.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made my first “spoon drop” or “spoon plop” soap today in camo. I was pleased with the colors (all botanical/“natural”), but may have *slightly* overdone the eucalyptus in my EO blend. The soap smells like Vicks VapoRub. I’m hoping it calms down during cure. 🤦‍♀️

    review this recipe please

Elly’s Everyday Soapmaking on YouTube has a good video which explains the differences in how lye is expressed in Soapcalc.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Here’s the recipe by Becky Zepeda from the magazine: Coconut oil 765 gr Almond oil 72 gr Cocoa butter 63 gr Distilled Water 153 gr Lye 127 gr 4 gr kaolin clay 40 gr EO 16 gr blue Cambrian clay (I used French green clay) 400 gr fine sea salt ~ 30 gr coarse pink Himalayan sea salt I added 2...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made my first salt bars yesterday and unmolded today. Used the recipe from the current issue of Willow & Sage, with Ylang Ylang, Lime, and Lemon Zest essential oils, and French green clay as colorant. I’m quite pleased with how they turned out!

What soapy thing have you done today?

Hilarious! I will admit to not checking out prices on sandalwood EO. Yikes! I’ll either keep using the FO/EO blend (I really do like it, was just trying for an all EO blend), or adjust the patchouli. I personally like patchouli, but it is definitely not everyone’s fave. Have you seen...
