Its all in the title :D

I'd like to try this recipe:

3 TB Jojoba
3 TB Shea or Cocoa butter
2-3 TB Beeswax
2 tsp honey
EO of choice (not sure yet)

Just wondering if the honey will be enough sweetener.

Someone else can help me out here, but I thought you couldn't use Honey in lip balm because it's not oil-soluble. Honey dissolves in water and that's not part o lip balm.

correct.

some whip it into a quasi-emulsion and use it anyway, but it's not stable.

oh duh....yeah, I guess it would seperate out eventually. I just saw some made with honey and thought it sounded like a great idea...till now :D

i have a lip balm that is made with honey. it is in a pot instead of a tube and is like a Vaseline consistency when warm-room temp. in the cold it is solid though

Thank you so much for posting this! I have just started making lip balms and mine were separating. Now I know why...the honey. Problem solved!

I just made some on Sunday with 1/2 teaspoon of honey and it seems to be doing okay. I did blend it very very well, but it seems to be holding up okay in .5oz tins so far. I've been using it and haven't noticed any separation.

first off, water in tins is a bad idea so you may want to rethink that. yes - by water I mean honey.

second, it can take time for the honey to ooze out. temp shifts can accelerate that. it may sink to the bottom in which case you might not see it right off until your tins start rusting, or it may ooze up and be visible on the surface.

These I made were just for personal use and to test the recipe. I've already decided to not use tins for anything I might sell. I know you can't use tin for anything with water in it, but I didn't think about the honey having water, so thank you for that. If I ever use tins again, I'll keep that in mind.
