I was just thinking about the soap making hobby and why anybody would make soap anyway...
After all, soap at the store is pretty cheap.
Now before you get me wrong, I might mention that I've made about 35,000 bars of soap.
So, I've thought about this a little bit!
Well, here are a few ideas about producing soap...
And could you add others?
1. You see, handmade soap is real soap.
2. Some, but not all, commercial soap products are actually detergents. So?
3. Commercial "soaps" are often drying. Why?
4. Well natural soaps contain glycerin as a product of soap making. It's a moisture attractant.
5. And actually really well made soap just feels better when used. That might be for a whole host of reasons.
6. Plus, who needs a chemical laden brew lathered all over the place. We get enough chemical exposure as it is...
7. Often handmade soap just has this tailored kind of performance. It just lathers well and cleans well.
8. But there's the smell. You can choose from a whole range of scents for soap.
9. Everybody likes to smell soap.
10. And then you have the look too. Soap has turned into a popular art form. That especially goes for colors.
11. And finally, it's just sort of cool to just do it yourself. Boo on big companies. Take control of something yourself. Even if it is just soap!
There you have it. A start on the many reasons to make your own handmade soap.
Soap making is an easy way to rebel against complication, out-of-control regulations, technology run amuck, and businesses grown too large. Making soap is one way to get into something cool you can just do yourself.
What do you think? Make soap. Make your little corner a little more sensible.
