Hi - thought I'd post this as a separate question from the whipped shea butter post. I notice that there are dozens of tutorials for whipped shea butter online - and all of them have their variations. I noticed some ingredients on the "Coastal Scents" website tutorial (http://www.coastalscents.com/cfwebs...how-to-make-whipped-unrefined-shea-butter.cfm):
# Silica Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
# Pearl White Mica powder - 1 teaspoon
# Boron Nitride 16 microns - 1 teaspoon
# Rice Powder - 1 tablespoon
I get what each of these do, but then I see that someone on this form recommended Isopropyl Myristate as a good additive to reduce greasiness. That's what the rice powder's supposed to do in the Coastal Scents recipe.
I'll bet there are 10 different additives for every desired effect. How in the world do you choose? And maybe if that question is impossible or too complicated to answer, maybe I could just get input on this one application - whipped shea butter. What's the benefit of Rice powder over I.M. (or vice versa)? Why use silica powder? Etc, Etc, Etc... :?
