Hey Everyone,

Where can I buy Buttermilk and Collidal Oatmeal powder from?
Thank you in advance.

I make my own collidal oats, it's cheaper then buying them.

I get buttermilk powder from the grocery store. You can get it in the baking section.

Colloidal oatmeal powder is the same as baby oatmeal!

Buttermilk powder is normally found near powdered milk product in the grocery store. I am not sure that it is available to the general public in GB though. It may be one of those "American" products. In many parts of the States, drinking buttermilk is an old established tradition. I live in the Southwest and cannot find it at all....either fresh or powdered. I buy colloidal oatmeal powder in the pharmacy. It is often near Epson soaking salts. It is used in bath water to make a very soothing tub for rashes or chicken-pox. It is a silky, talc-like consistency. If you grind up your own oatmeal to make colloidal version it will never be as smooth as the pharmacy version and you will get some exfoliation even with the baby food version. I use colloidal oatmeal (first made into a well-blended paste with water) in my goatmilk recipes. It does tend to make the soap a little cream colored instead of really white. My husband is susceptible to skin rashes so I always put it in the goatmilk soaps I make just for him.

Thank you everyone. I will try making the Oatmeal powder.
I love this forum :)

Reallyrita- where do you live in the southwest? I live in the Phoenix area and get my powdered butttermilk at Walmart.

I do make my own oatmeal by grinding. My stick blender has a chopping attachment that I use.

AZsoaper: I live in northern New Mexico and my local WalMart does not carry food items. We are supposed to get a Super WalMart in the future but I doubt it will carry buttermilk. No one here knows what it is!!

I have oat flour but when I measured it out for my soap (I had run out of the colloidal from the drugstore) I discovered that is was not silky smooth and I decided not to use it for my DH's soap as his skin is beyond sensitive. I would use it to give a little bit of srubby-ness though. There is definitely a difference. Most people use oatmeal to get that little bit of exfoliation and I often do too, but it is not a substitute for real colloidal oatmeal which is a pharmacy product for soothing soak baths. No scurbby-ness at all.
