I am still trying to learn when to add different ingredietns to my soap mix.
also where to add them , water or oil. This is not always evident on the package, in fact, hardly ever, and I have not seen a guide that is helpful
Ex: stearic acid...lactic acid... silk amino..just to name a few.
Is there a rule of thumb for adding these to the mix.?
I would appreciate any input you could give me.
Thanks

solids that melt should be melted with the oils (stearic)
solids you want intact should be added at trace (scrubbies)
solids you want to dissolve should be dissolved in whatever solubulizes them (silk goes into the lye water, not sure about the silk amino acids, tho).
water based stuff can be added any time (lactic acid), really.

but this is based on CP. if you HP I don't remember when you add the LA.

ETA: your procedures may differ from mine, and your "ideal" time to add could then vary from mine.

Thanks for the information.
I am still unclear exactly how I will know if a product is water-based or oil, but maybe I have a mental block.
I will just keep reading, and hopefully it will click in.
Thanks again.
