What soapy thing have you done today?

Today I am sad. I was going to make soap. Did not premeasure my lye, as per usual. When I had everything going, I began to straight dump my lye into the water and realized I was short. I am now pouting and putting everything back in their containers as I haven't melted them yet. WHAT WAS I THINKING? But I'd rather pack it all up and start again another day. It's one thing after another today. I was already having a very late start. But I am disappointed. I had lovely visions of what I wanted to create today and now I'm sad. :(

I got two pretties!

I bought 20L of olive oil! I don't buy anything soap-related in bulk, and have barely been making soap for the past 2-3 years, so this commitment is a big deal. When the price of OO sky-rocketed last year, I experimented with other oils, but there's really not a good replacement, so when I saw that the bulk purchase would save me about 50%, I decided to commit. And that way I can stop price comparing and worrying about running out.

It's a new year and now with holidays over and garden planted it's time to address my next stage of cp soap making. I stated last year I need to take the tome to check out eos and safe fragrances and mica and natural colourants. So I came up with a way that would give me small soaps and make this learning process more fun. I have some small moulds to make 600 gram batches for and an array of tiny molds. I choose 5 colors of micas. Light pink magenta,a yellow magic and a violet and a blue ultramarine. Mixed with the avocado oil from the recipe I was using. Heated the oil till warm then added. My soaping recipe I was using has no olive oil. I used 35% lard 23%coconut extra virgin oil 6%caster 15% shea unrefined and 10 unrefined coconut butter 8% avacado oil . My daughter wanted a hard bar that lasted and had plenty of bubbles. So testing several things at the same time. I used juniper, peppermint

Then double posted. Gremlins! Anyway it's how I'm testing things! Hope everyone is having a great day!

I masterbatched 24 pounds of 50% concentration lye water. Before coffee 🤯

And realized I used 22 pounds of lye last year 😳🤯😁🙋🏿‍♂️🤣

Yes, I have soap coming out my whazoo🤣😂🤣
Wow that's a lot!! I have yet to try making multi batches at the same time. I usually plan the night before have everything weighted out and do my lye solution the night before. When I get home from work I warm everything up to my soaping temperature and make it. You must be so organized!

When I make slabs, not so much. But multicolor or multi-loaf batches requires days of preparation and checking and rechecking. Then execution is fast.

Fragrance and/or sodium gluconate gets missed often 😬

Have ordered my lye, but I don't think I'll get it in time for either the monthly challenge or to make Valentine's Day soaps. That's alright. I'll make up for it later. Excited to see everyone's work in the challenge!
That’s why you visit the plumbing section of your local hardware store @MomInWA, to purchase a jar of Red Devil. I know where you live, and you DO have stores there! 🤣
