What soapy thing have you done today?

That’s the prettiest purple/lavender, @Martha - may I ask what you used?

I used Brambleberry's Queen's Purple mica (it is old, so not sure if they still have this color). I added a 1t. in a 2lb batch. I held back some batter to do the white swirl, but it wasn't much. Honestly it looked like murky mud when I made it and thought it was a fail. But then it went through gel and came out more purple than muddy. Whew!

To be clear, I was not even in the area making soap. It was Some People's Kid commandeering using my soaping shop for their own "project."

Whelp, you asked for it. I cut it and most were normal swirls, but then I got to these two. My facial bars. I seem to make creepy faces in soap. Here's a link to a thread on faces in soap. But since you asked, I just poured the orange and pink in lines down the mold at varying heights. Then swirled the top.

I made the Swirly Soap of Doom: Take 2 last night. I used my original method, thinking maybe the problems I had the first time were due to soaper error. Nope, I am convinced this FO accelerates and I will never use it again unless it's a one-color or uncolored soap.
I stickblended in very short bursts just til emulsion, grabbed my mold to pour, and everything turned to pudding in seconds. I stirred and poured all the soap batters in gallon freezer bags and cut a corner out of each and squeezed them into the divided portions of my mold and used spatulas to push it all in. Then, since everyone was in bed and I didn't want to wake them, I took the whole mold out to the garage (not attached to the house) and slam banged it on the ground multiple times to get out some of the air bubbles and level the batter as best as I could. Swirled a bit, brought the mold back inside and covered it up. We'll see how it turned out tonight. I knew I should've just made another unscented batch.

I ordered soap boxes and designed simple back labels that I think will work well. Front labels are in the works, I just have to decide which labels to buy that will match my back labels and find a corresponding Avery template. I keep telling myself this will be worth it when I'm finished because any packaging/labeling moving forward will just be rinse and repeat.

Thank you thank you thank you @Mobjack Bay! I just cut my second attempt at the swirly soap of doom. Lots of air pockets again. I used your advice and grabbed a flexible little paring knife and managed to salvage 6 bars. It felt a lot like I was doing a miniature version of drywall patching but it worked and looks great, certainly better than what I was trying before just using my fingers.
FYI: BB Sugar & Spice accelerates fast! Even at 3% in a lard based recipe soaping at 95°F. It also discolors to a creamy vanilla custard color.

I sent pictures of the swirly soaps of doom to the customer and included pictures of what I think are the worst looking bars from each batch in full disclosure and she still loves them. I am breathing a sigh of relief because I offered to make another batch unscented (because she already likes those) if she preferred, but I was not looking forward to making more DIY dividers. Now I can focus more on packaging. I also need to make another batch of FIL's favorite charcoal and pumice soap because I just sold every bar I had cured in anticipation of him needing more by the end of the year.

I unmolded my Buttermilk Castille soaps today. Proud of myself for leaving them in the mold long enough--usually I'm too impatient. Scented lavender & peppermint EO. Bermuda Triangle mica from Mad Micas. First time using milk in a soap!

I made soap today! For those counting, it is the second batch in three days after a months-long hiatus! I made a double-batch of my favorite and crowd favorite "Spring Clean." Everything is toasty and cozy under the towels.

My son wanted to make a presentation for his Chemistry co-op, so I helped to record the video. He made coconut oil soaps with kaolin and activated charcoal. His sister says the design reminds her of cows.
