I am trying to make an oatmeal honey soap, but am not sure about where to buy or what type of oatmeal to use. Plus, can I just use 100% pure honey from the grocery store? Regular dry oatmeal like you can buy in the cereal section at Walmart?

Thanks!

I'm not an experienced or knowledgeable person in the soap world, but thought I'd throw a few tidbits in.

If you're using Honey, perhaps you could try Manuka Honey which has stronger antibacterial properties than other honeys. It's usually rated with a UMF scale, the higher the stronger.

Organic Oatmeals can be found in bulk at health food stores. As well as Gluten free varieties found online. Oats don't necessarily contain gluten, but they may contaminated with it. Not a concern though, if you're not allergic.

I just use regular honey and regular quick oats or rolled oats. I grind up my oats to a powder as well....just a preference....I think most don't.

You don't need anything fancy.

I suggest that you grind your oats really well. I've made 2 batches with quickly ground oats. It's very exfolliating. A little too "shardy" for me. I'm going to use colloidial (sp?) oats in my next batch.

First time I made oatmeal and honey soap my husband wasn't impressed. He commented after having a shower that he prefered his oatmeal in a bowl rather than stuck in his chest hair.

After I just about peed myself laughing, I promised to grind it up from then on. He's happy now though he still will take any other bar first. Oh well can't please em all!

I just made a batch of goatmilk, oatmeal and honey soap a few days ago. I used organic baby oatmeal from the healthfood store for my oatmeal amount. It's supposed to not feel as scratchy as oat flour or ground oats in CP, or so I've read. I can hardly wait for it to cure to try out a bar! :D

I've read other posts where people use the Gerber type of oatmeal that you can find in the baby isle at any grocery store. They seem to prefer it over the regular oatmeal, because it is much finer and isn't "scratchy" in the soap.

Great help! Thanks! The infant oatmeal sounds like a wonderful idea! I think I will look for some of it.
