Salt bars can be made from any soap recipe, but they suds better with mostly
coconut oil because it is the only oil that will suds in the presence of salt.
It has from 50-100% of the weight of the oils in added
salt- either table or sea salt.

They are hard, last a long time, don't leave gunk in the soap dish, and feel
like a smooth river-rolled stone. They will sting freshly shaven or broken skin,
but they are very refreshing. My skin always feels like I just walked out of the
ocean.

Salt bars are a delight! I like to use ocean-y scents, like WSP's "Beach", which
smells like old fashioned Coppertone suntan lotion- yum!

The salt bar is my absolut favorite soap right now! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! (thanks Tasha!)
Just wanted to add if you make a batch cut quick! I normally cut within an hour of pouring it (no joke)

Yes- if I soap around 110-120 degrees, it is ready to slice in 1-2 hours, depending
on the recipe. But if I soap at room temp, it has taken up to 8 hours to be firm enough.
I have tried to cut after 2 hours and it is much too soft.- same
recipe!

I don't even bother with the log mold for salt bars anymore, I got some of the half-round individual cavity molds from Southern Garden Scents and use them for all of my salt bars. Takes out all of the headaches and watching them like a hawk to see if they're ready to cut or not.

One more thing!! I have read more than once NOT to use dead sea salts..... I have been using pink himalayan salt ground fine and it turns out wonderful! It looks really pretty if you put course salt on top after pouring!!

Doesn't salt dehydrate skin :?:

When i walk out from sea i immediately have to wash me with soft water...

I've never noticed any drying effects whatsoever from salt bars, and my skin tends to be pretty dry.

No dry skin here either! I don't even have to use lotion after using it either! :)
