Everyone is very friendly and helpful. I recently joined another forum but got turned off my the dirty language, i'm not one for bad language, besides, I have a daughter that doesn't need to see such things unecessarily when browsing the forum with me.
Here I know I can come and feel relaxed when I need to ask a question. So thanks to all of you for making this such a great forum. :D

SMF is the first forum I have ever belonged to and I love it!!!

For me it is the people. Everyone here that I have had contact with are not just helpful and friendly.....they will go the extra mile to solve my challenges and encourage me in every endeavour - soaping or otherwise.

(And as a knowledge base, it is hard to beat too! )

All of the above, was lurking for quite a while and it seemed like a really friendly place. Nobody is better than the other, some might have more knowledge, but they graciously share it with the rest of us! :D :D :D

I can drive my dh crazy when I've got a new soap idea to try. With no local "soaping buddies" around, I come to the forum for my fix. Just reading how others struggle with same questions helps a lot. I don't feel that I am quite so weird. I am surrounded by muggles who can't see why I would bother to make soap. I can't tell you how many problems I have avoided by reading other's accounts and suggestions. I am already a better soaper because of this forum- and certainly more confident!

For me, it's people who understand my love of my craft. It's not a competition, it's supportive and nurturing to spirit of creativity. I haven't encountered any cattiness or jealousy, snarking or theft of product production. Just a general sharing of techniques and ideas. That makes a difference, especially to someone like me who has never picked up a soaping book, but has had the help of such wonderful folk as youselves.

Thanks for all the kind words. I agree. I have been a member of many forums over the years. I got so disgusted w/ the attitude I actually dropped all forums for just over a year. When I ventured back online I found SMF. At that time it had about 50 members it sure has grown :D !

I love SMF for it's family-friendly atmosphere. And like so many others have said already, there's no snarkiness or rudeness- just a love of the craft and a genuine desire in everyone to help make each others soaping experinces a success. :)

Before I became a mod here I started out just a mp/candlemaking newbie. Now because of you guys, I had the courage to ask any questions i had and never once received a negative comment. I love making rebatch soaps but some thought I was nuts to waste my time. I appreciate that no one here did that to me. No matter what this is my number one forum! You guys including my fellow mods are the absolute best!

I was very put off by the drama and bad attitudes of the other forums, they made sharing and talking about soap feel like a battle, everything was an invite to be sarcastic, narkie, and dramatic . I got some people who were not very nice to me there and I became afraid to post (they especially attack people who want to sell soap, no one is worthy to them). Phew, I have had that on my chest for a while! It was a bad experience all around.

But then there was alway trusty old SMF! Everyone is nice, non-judgmental, not bossy and very supportive of everyone. It is a forum I can feel comfortable on :) Thanks SMF!!! :)

kaseencook,
I love that you donate a portion of your profits to sea turtles. I love sea turtles. I went to The Caymans once, and couldn't tear myself away from them. Magical animals. Good for you!

Thanks so much LJA! I did some interning with sea turtles in Florida and Costa Rica as apart of my zoology training, and found them to be mysterious and wonderful gentile creatures too! The donations go to Save the Turtles Inc (www.costaricaturtles.org), who do mostly community based conservation and education in Costa Rica.

I noticed you are from southeast Michigan, I grew up in southwest Michigan (Saugatuck/Douglas, near Holland)! What town are you from?
:D

Oh wow...I've been to Saugatuck. Cool little artsy farsty town. I'm in a suburb outside of Detroit. St. Clair Shores.

And yes...we're a Chrysler employed family. We'll be eating cat food soon. Thanks for askin'.

Had I had any brains when I was younger, I'd have gone into your field. I missed my calling. I named my car Steve Irwin. lol.

Yay! Thanks guys! I love this forum too, BECAUSE of the people. This is the first soapmaking forum I've joined and the only one I ever use, simply because...it's the only one I need or want! We've got everything here, most importantly, the friendly and helpful members.
