Well, I got ONE batch done when I wanted to get two done (it's a LOT of work to make soap!) LOL And I also learned not to put vanilla in a soap unless you want it yellowish (and YES I did read that before but of course you HAVE to try it because you KNOW that would never happen to you!) I really need to learn to trust you all here! LOL SOOO, now my blueberry/vanilla ice cream soap is more like green pea and hollandaise sauce stew with a blueberry scent. HUH Wonder what I shall call it?! Any ideas?

The vanilla turned both my white color yellow (I should have taken the batter out for white before adding the scent I guess) and the blue natural indigo a green color (the only way to prevent this was to NOT add the vanilla right?) A little dark chocolate and some wine helped me cheer up! I'm all better now :D

Well at least I got to practice my swirl which was my main goal, and the soap smells awesome...green or not!

Sounds like you had some fun. Well done.
Can you post pictures of the batch? Its always interesting to see the fresh poured look, then the cut pics and then you get to see how they darken over time on curing rack too.

i once did a vanilla and when fresh cut, it was dark brown around outside and white in middle - once the air got to it the whole bar turned dark chocolate colour.
If you plan well sometimes using your fragrance as colour is very interesting effect too.

Here is the picture of our "Blueberry Misfortune" or "Blueberry...NOT" soap. The only two names I could possibly come up with for this HEHE!

You have just gone to town with your soaping passion; I hate to see a somewhat negative title for your soap. How about "Early Blueberry", as in unripened?

Too bad it isn't April 1st; "Blueberry Fool's" (I know, I have a weird sense of humor)

I love that name lena :D I can never think of "good" names but love naming them. Your right, it should have a positive name! It may end up looking awesome! I hope! So excited to cut it tomorrow and see how the swirl is.

Oh and I could hold it until next April 1st. That is also a very clever name :D Your good at this!

One loaf down and many many more to go! Don't worry it gets a lot easier. When you start it can be hours what with the prepping and worrying and trying to get things just right. However after several months you'll be whipping out loaves in a half hour (slightly longer when you get really creative). You are going to have great fun with this! Just think of all the soap you won't be buying!

Yeah for challenged soaps, one step closer to being a great soaper! You need to have some hiccups to really get good!

Give that soap some time, I bet it will change on you even more. :)

I'm not usually this creative, but the kitchen renovation (I hear we're up for a Guinness book award for s.l.o.w.e.s.t. renovation progress. Maybe the workers should show up more than twice a week?) Had to find ways to make meals with no stove, oven, running water, electricity. Plus, we've all been sick. What do you do with a sick six year old who can't take the noise of power tools, let alone a sick adult who just wants to go to bed? (Thank you patient, understanding people of the city library!!)

Luckily we're much better today in time for them to travel, and only myself left to deal with the chaos!

Oh! My best idea yet...I can make soap in the upstairs bathroom! There's a long, long counter between two sinks. It's actually a better soaping area than the kitchen because I can line tools up in the order of use

Hopefully, I will be making my own interesting interpretation of "Early Blueberry" in a couple of days! (I have purple alkanet root waiting to be used, and a new orange fo that seems promising. How do you like the name " Royal Orange?" (Purple being the color for royalty in ancient days)

Yeesh. I'm going to bed.

It looks amazing! and a perfect topping. :)

Why not call it "Blueberry leaves" ?

(But you might wait naming the soap until it - maybe - morphs to orange).

I bet people would "get" that name. :D I will have to see what it looks like when it actually dries. It actually looks REALLY pretty right now, it's gelling and it's looking lime green...a lite lime color with a cream. If only it would stay that way but I'm sure the cream will get darker over time. I decided to try the darn 2nd soap!! Who knows, maybe I will make a night of it and make a third batch lol. This next one is going to be black and white. How can I screw that one up! It has Anise scent...I hope that doesn't change color of soap!! Will take pics when it's done.

LMBO I can almost relate in terms of using vanilla, but I think it actually imparted a slight, non-vanilla-like sweetness to my soap's scent (plus my soap was already yellow). Still, vanilla is best used as an FO or EO.

I'm pretty happy with the soap PRE-cut. The colors don't do them justice though. The greens in the blueberry soap are a lite lime green which I love! I may have to call this something like fruity delite. lol And the "black and white" is not a pure black...I didn't use much black so Its more of a dark blue but really pretty. They are not quite ready to cut yet so will wait a few more hours before I attempt to cut them. It's only been 12 - 14 hours since I made them. Here is a picture I have with them out of their molds:

The vanilla in your soap will discolour or turn brown over the coming weeks.

They came out wonderful! Love the swirls and the checkerboard look! I think the names you picked are perfect. Now is the hard part....waiting for the cure!

Thanks everyone for the great comments! I'm So excited to make more soap but I work every weekend so tonight I'm stuck at work until 7am so NO soap making for me tonight :( Hopefully I can get a batch in tomorrow after we go shopping. These are both really growing on me :D I can't wait to improve and make some awesome soaps in the future! I will get LOTS of practice in!
