Vanilla Stabilizer

Does anyone know what vanilla stabilizer is? It's by far the worst thing I have ever smelt/worked with. And there is no way that it could possibly be healthy. I really want to know what is in it for it to smell so horrible, and it burns too if you inhale it!

I just checked a few suppliers and they do not show the ingredients. WSP says it is made of fragrance??? Not a nice one that is for sure.

I have 7 lbs of it and rescently decided to use the M&P instead. No major smell, mixes better with fragrance and in a punch when I tried it I had no adverse effects with CP.
Tried it a few more times and worked fine.

The CP one smells so awful I just never liked using it and kicked myself for buying that giant jug.

It smells like a strong solvent. I made the mistake of taking a big sniff right in the bottle...You learn quickly to never ever do it again. I have used it with success though so it does work. Not sure what the MP kinds smells like and didn't even know there was a difference. Thanks Jennee. Hope your eye is on the mend.

I've never used vanilla stabilizer, but I read somewhere that after a few months, it can lose its effectiveness and the soaps can darken anyway. Has anybody had this happen? I have just avoided FOs that contain vanilla unless I'm ok with a brown tint.

I have used vanilla stabilizer for cp soap and the stabilizer for lotions and washes. Mine never seemed to have a horrible smell. You mix it with fragrance and let it set for several minutes before adding it to the product. By that time, all I can detect is fragrance. Many ingredients have a potent smell by themselves, doesn't mean they are harmful when used as directed.
Here is the link for Wholesale Supplies Plus Certification Form for one of the vanilla stabilizers. It states that,

"Crafter's Choice LLC certifies that the above mentioned fragrance product is in compliance with the standards of the International Fragrance Association [IFRA 46th Amendment (June '11)], provided the fragrance is used in the following application(s) at the following maximum concentration level(s)"

Bramble Berry sells it, and I think it is used primarily in Melt and Pour.
The foot note says it only lasts 4-9 months in CP and then will start to turn brown.

The stuff I bought was from Nature's Garden. It smells really potent in the bottle (sharp, like burn-your-nose-hairs sharp) but once you blend it there is no smell in the soap.

I have had that happen in a Pink Sugar soap after about a year it went purple starting in the center and moving outwards.
