Hi everyone, its me again. I hate it when I am unable to figure something out but that's the case when figuring out vanilla. I want to only use pure E/O in my soaps. Is there such a thing as vanilla E/O?
Mary Kay

Genny, can those be used in CP soap making and are they all natural?

They can both be used in CP, but like with most plain vanilla fragrances, they have a hard time sticking.

On whether or not they are natural, I guess that would matter what you consider natural. In my opinion, they're as natural as lye.
Absolutes are extracted from plants, but use solvents during the extraction process. The solvents are later removed from the absolute, but sometimes very small trace amounts of solvents can remain in the final absolute.

With vanilla oleoresin, alcohol is used in the extraction process. The alcohol is also eventually removed from the oleoresin. Since it is a resin, it can crystalize when it gets cold so you have to warm up the bottle a little bit to dissolve the crystals. Oleoresin is usually better in water based products, but I've heard of some people getting it to work in their CP.

Just another thought, would scraping the vanilla bean and adding it at trace work? Maybe infusing the bean in the oil before using like a week before. Any thoughts on these ideas? I love vanilla, it's my favorite :D

Unfortunately, the scent doesn't last long after saponification. I haven't tried using an infused oil in HP to see if the scent survives or not though. So maybe if you HP it and then right before you mash it all into your mold you mix in some of the infused oil? You'd have to triple infuse the oil or possible more.

I bought some Benzoin essential oil, as it has a scent that reminds me of vanilla only to find out that apparently lots of people have sensitivities to it.
Darn!! I'm still on the hunt for essential oils that resemble vanilla!

I think that peru balsam might be your best bet.

Texas Natural Supply sells some sort of natural vanilla product for soapers that I've heard good things about. However, I've also heard that their shipping charges are way out there.

Amazing oil!!! You can always request USPS for shipping. Shipping fees are high all over the place but I think we are all getting spoiled with free shipping from Amazon.

Found this, Peru Balsam is considered a " powerful sensitiser" and is RIFM ( research institute for fragrance materials" not to be used as a fragrance material. Just FYI.
