I'd like to get brave and branch into a vanilla scented soap and maybe coffee for a friend... But what should I use for scenting either? I don't care so much about color. I'm happy with the way the soaps color naturally, but I'm curious what I should use for the smells.

Suggestions?

I think the coffee on its own is fine. I've made coffee soap in the past, and never used any FO in it.

Just used regular coffee grounds? Do they need to be instant or does it matter?

If you use regular coffee grounds or use coffee as the liquid they don't smell very much or for very long. I would definitely suggest buying some fragrance oils online for either one of these scents if you want a long lasting and high quality scent.

I love Nature's Garden for a lot of my fragrance oils.

there are lots of other suppliers too but NG has a very large selection (basic scents and more complex ones) so I usually go there first.

this is one of my fave vanilla scents:

They also have several coffee fragrances.

My coffee soap turned out great using a 4x coffee concentrate and grounds as the coffee smell. No it wasn't as strong as a fragrance oil. I also used a vanilla FO with it. I have a coffee fragrance in the mail to give a try. I want to use it to boost the natural smell and give it some staying power.
