Valuable lessons from 1st batch

Those are all some pretty good lessons to share...Probably one of the biggest that sticks out in my mind is to ALWAYS start off small, and never take on a big batch...till you have a good recipe down pat. ;-)

Do you use canola in cp or hp?
and at what percentage if you dont mind me asking?

I personally have NOT made my first batch as of yet...
However, i was wondering if anyone had like a *top tips for 1st batch* before venturing into the soap making world...???

Maybe take points from here and write them? If it keeps going that is.
I'm only on batch 6 and would as that you pay attention to temp and make sure to stay in range of what your batch needs. I went a little to high and had super fast trace and an ugly end result of gloppy soap.
Think 110 or below is good but someone correct me if wrong? I know some do 115.
With milks you go lower to 80's but you can learn that later. Although mine turned out great with only 3 batches under my belt. I'm just super anal and research a ton!
Also.. Videos on YouTube should be a new best friend.

There is a LOT of information on this site all together! Its so awesome to see so many people who all like the same craft and that have been doing it for awhile!
My goal would be to have enough courage to make some organic soaps and start an organic small business part time from it... Doing something that i love and getting some money on the side would really make me even more happy to craft and share it with others who like it too!
Although i have a LONG way to go before i can even get to that point, i hope that i can make that dream a goal and slowly work my way up to local shows, craft fairs and markets with the help of family, friends and the people that work together on this supportive form!
