What are the general guidelines to follow when using essential oils to fragrance liquid soap? To me, it tends to have a funky smell without anything. I want to use lavender, which i know will cloud it and that is okay because it looks okay to me, but I don't want to overdo it. I tested some in a 4 oz bottle with 8 drops of lavender eo and stirred well. It only has a very slight lavender fragrance, so I think it needs more, but I don't want to add too much. What amount to you all think is sufficient for 4 oz of liquid soap?

I'm no expert on EOs by any means, but it seems to be that since Lavender can be used neat, so as long as it's for you and you know you're not sensitive or allergic, I would assume you could add it drop by drop until you're happy with the fragrance level. For others, tho, someone who has more knowledge would have to comment.

I use about 2-4% EOs in liquid soap.

Just remember at 5% it starts to become therapeutic so if you go to that level you need to know what the EO's are actually used for. I stick to 3% and I find that gives me a nice strong scent.....

all EOs become therapeutic starting at 5%???? ALL? And therapeutic in what way?
what am I not understanding?

I use EOs anywhere from 3-6% depending on what the EO actually is - it's staying power and it's character.

I think that if you are using EO's you should always assume that they will have therapeutic qualities when using. (At least I do.)

I wouldn't use something that would cause early labor (if I were preg) even at small quantities. If that makes sense.

So I think it might be confusing and dangerous to say that EO's do not have therapeutic properties at lower than 5%. It's misleading.

Is this percentage of eo's per pound of oils? A percentage of soap paste? A percentage of total liquid soap? Thank you so much. It is hard to find info on liquid soaps.

eo's in liquid soap

Thank you agriffin for your response! I checked all my notes and so far I am staying in the 2-3% range. This leaves a very faint scent, even using a 5x lemon eo. I want just enough to cover the soap smell. I find that the citrus eo's seem to make the liquid soap more drying if I use more than 3% of a citrus eo.

Thank you!
