I'm not sure if my problem is partial gel or overheating.

When I make this certain recipe in small batches everything turns out perfectly. But when I make twice as much the problem occurs. The middle part is darker than the upper and lower part of the vertical log. I do insulate and use plexiglas molds that I made. I also soap at room temp.

Need help, thanks!

sounds like a partial gel to me. i put my towels that i insulate my soap with in the oven on warm while i make my soap, when i pour the soap into the mold i cover it and then use the warm towels to insulate. that seems to help my soap out since i live in a fairly cool climate area, even in the summer.

partial gel! I would either stick with making the smaller batches or do the oven thing. Turn on your oven until it heats (to what temperature I don't know, I've done mine around 200), and then turn it off and put your soap in and leave it overnight. Still wrapped in a towel or whatever you want.
This can lead to overheating but I've had both partial gel and overheating and I'll take the overheating any day. Partial gel is just annoying.
