I just got some ultramarines and oxides from Saffire Blue. The first batch I coloured worked (I used oxides) but the second batch I tried Ultramarine Pink, and it just disappeared into the soap! I kept adding more and more, and the soap wasn't taking it at all.

The soap recipe I used makes a lighter soap, so that wasn't the problem. I used about 1/4 tsp. of Ultramarine Pink mixed with a little castor oil in a 1 lb batch of soap.

Anyone know why it didn't work? I also added a tiny bit of Titanium Dioxide because I wanted it to be a very light pink (sorry if that sounds stupid, I am super new at colouring!) Could the wee bit of Titanium Dioxide have washed the pink right out?

Also, can you mix ultramarines and oxides?

high ashley!

tho i'm no expert, i think the titanium white knocked out your color, as i've never had that trouble with pink before. i don't use much td except if i know that a bar is going to discolor tan or brown.

may i suggest using only the pink next time-maybe 1/8 tsp-unfortunately starting out has so much guess work in it. i keep a journal for easy reference on every batch so the next time i go to make it i can fine-tune it.

i've never had a problem mixing oxides and ultramarines, but again i am no expert. i would suggest mixing your colors together first, then in a squeeze bottle- you can drizzle a little out at a time until you get the color you're looking for.

for c/p i found some colors got darker after they gel, but for rtcp most colors get lighter...go figure!

good luck!
