I've had a couple. I like to think that scammers think us soapers are secretly a debauched community and likely to take them up on their offer.

I have a husband, a full time job, a toddler and a soap making problem... I really don't have time for "free" chat....

They choose any forum that membership doesn't need approval. Generally they are payed for each message they send so they join a forum and spam send a message to every member.
Could be a bot, could be a real person.

If you go all the way down to the bottom of the FORUMS page, there's a space that tells us who is online at the time. It also tells how many total are on line. I don't check it often but normally it says 35 or so members and 500 or so guests. Right now it says:
Total: 855 (members: 39, guests: 816)
My, my. That's quite a jump in the number of "guests". Hmmm.
