Made two batches of soap today.

The first one I made was a batch of Honey & Oatmeal (unscented cause the last batch I made unscented has become my new favorite! It has such an awesome natural nutty scent too it!). My first batch of this that I had made last month volcanoed on me so I had some issue...but again it came out great (after I cleaned up the initial volcano) It is the basically the only soap (in the shower...there is always like 5 or 6 different choices at each sink) I have used all month. So this batch I basically did at room temperature. The only "heated" parts was the melted cocoa butter and the lye mixture which I mixed in a cold water bath plus I use frozen goat milk. And I decided I was going to attempt it not gelling. So far so good.

My second batch was a 'blueberry crunch'....but I used titanium oxide and some mica for the first time. So its a sort of layered/swirled 2lb log...and again was more of a rtcp (used some PKO so had to get that warm enough to not harden up on me). And again I am attempting to not gel.

I am not sure what to except from these 2 batches. They seem to be ok so far. I have found that both of them seemed to be much creamier consistency at room temp. I also had a couple smaller decorative molds I used for the bit of extras from each batch. I just bought some silicone Wilton molds I wanted to try out...which is why I made a little extra in each batch to just see how they work.

So should I be expecting anything different from this non-gel soap?
Sandy :D

I personally don't gel my soaps. I find they set slower - can be up to 2 days for a pure castille - but at the same time they are lovely and smooth and creamy and I love the colours - they stay pale.

After pouring the soaps, you can also stick them in the fridge or the freezer (if you're really serious) to prevent gel.

Other than taking longer to set up, wait a few days longer before you test your soaps for zap. Ungelled soap means slower saponification.

I have so far just unmolded some of the little ones that I had poured into some wilton silicone molds I wanted to try...and they came out so nice :) I like those molds. And I do like the colors of the ungelled soaps...they stay light and creamy looking...very pretty :D

I will take some pics later....I actually am going to pick up my new car today  Very exciting...first time I have ever bought a brand new car....course I might be too scared to drive it...afraid I might crack it up pulling out of the dealer

Haven't taken pics of the soap yet...but had to take a pic of my new car....

I think I held my breath all the way home from the dealer...was afraid I would kill it before it had 10 miles on it

I always do a couple of ungelled in each batch, i prefer gelled though. Does anyone find the ungelled ones dont smell the same?It seems like they dont hold the fo as well?maybe ive just been around too many fumes!!!

Ok now that I have the pic of the car...here are some pics of the soap (although will probably take better ones in the morning cause the light sucks tonight)

This is the Blueberry Crunch (for lack of a better name). The blue came out a pretty baby blue...I haven't cut it yet..a little afraid the middle will be ugly...but I like the outside so far :)

This is the Oats & Honey...it is nice...although doesn't smell the same as the first batch (at least not that I can tell since I haven't cut it yet either). I think for this particular soap at least I like the gelled look better...but will reserve judgment til I cut it and it cures some...

And these are just some of the extra that I tried in a couple of the Wilton silicone molds (stars and flowers)...and the beehive one just cause I love that mold. The silicone molds are great...I really like them. Although this particular batch of Oats & Honey came out beautifully in the bee mold...almost as easy as the silicone molds.

The little stars and flowers are a little "plain" looking cause I didn't use any colors or whatever...but they smell yummy! My whole house smells blueberry-ish :) And the stars are from the batch that seized on me...it was the part I set aside to color (never got that far)...so just added a little of the banana FO and it worked ok. So they smell yummy too! Might try doing something to "dress them up" a bit...maybe some whipped soap or something. Not sure if it will stick or not though....

I am still not sure what I think of the 'gel' vs. 'ungel'...verdict is still out...
I think it is probably good for doing colored stuff...

Those soaps look wonderful!

I have a non-gel question...

What sort of properties does not allowing the soap to gel give the soap?

i think the gel and not gel is just the look, i dont notice anything in the shower. Non gel takes a little longer to cure.

How does the non-gel look different?

Sorry... just a new concept for me...

Can't wait to try it with biodiesel glycerin!

This is my first attempt at not gelling...so don't really know :?

Just from what I read...some say it is creamier and colors (added colors or just natural color) stay lighter...

And at least for me...part of it was trying to make sure my Oats & Honey batch didn't volcano again  Although even with the volcano I ended up loving that soap...I have used pretty much the entire 4 lb loaf myself

So at the moment I have found that....it at least prevented the volcano...and the batch I added color to came out nice...and the consistency does seem creamier (I was able to make a more textured top on the blueberry one...although then I went and sprinkled oats on it so you can't see it

Just took a peek at your site...
That almond joy looks awesome!

Ahh... A cure for the volcano... That makes sense!

I have that same bee mold! I love anything bees and have quite a few different types of bees/skeps/etc themed molds. They are my favs!

Soap is lovely, btw! :)
