Has anyone made transparent soap with out using lard or tallow?
What oils can I substitute for the lard or tallow?

I read that transparent soap made with glycerin turns cloudy/opaque pretty fast, while transparent soap made with ethyl alcohol remains transparent for much longer. Any experience with that?

Also, any idea where I can buy ethyl alcohol?

I have never made transparent soap using just glycerin, but my soap made with alcohol is still clear as glass years later.

If you live in the US you can buy everclear or some other very strong neutral spirits at the liquor store, or look for 70% ethyl alcohol at the pharmacy.

I live in Australia and I bought 95% spirits from dan murphys.
I'd rather stay away from palm oil cause of all the stigma surrounding it but I suppose if I have to use it to get away from using animal fat.
Thanks for the tip on the melt and pour forum

I have tried 33% coconut soap flakes with 67% glycerin. Makes a fairly transparent(enough to read 14 pt font through 1/4 in piece) but the soap weeps/sweats like mad
