Carebear mentioned Tradewinds Select Shades in another post, so I meandered over and took a look.

I was impressed with the site, and the color chart. Mostly the color chart. So I bit and bought the set.

I've never used bottled colors, mostly UMs, Oxides, Clays and powdered FD&C and D&C that I've mixed with distilled water. Also a few herbal powders, but they are so temperamental.

Do the colors stay true? Are they stable? Fading? I see from their INCI chart that they are just dyes, in fact the same as I have, except Red 28. I'm really hoping to get a good blue from the Aquamarine.

Anyone care to share experiences, tips or cautions about these?

Thanks :D

soap

sorry, i've never used them-my only blue has been ultra marine blue (and crayons!) i have been tempted to buy some, but was wondering the same-do the colors bleed in swirls, fade or morph in c/p?

OK, I got them. Tradewinds shipped them superfast, sent a UPS shipping tracker, everything went very smooth.

The product is ok. It's basically the same as the powdered FD&C and D&C that I already have, except that these are premixed, and preserved with Germall Plus.

I'm not sure if I will use them - one more thing to add the list of ingredients. I have no issues with preservatives, but simply for label appeal I'm not sure I want a mile long list of unpronounceable words on my soap labels. KWIM?

I have them and love them!!!! Got them on Soapmakerman's recommendation. They are particularly nifty and thrifty to me because you can make so many colors and shades with the basic set. The chart is awesome because I am definitely challenged when it comes to mixing colors.

So far, the colors have been true to the chart and stayed that way after curing. There are the same considerations such as the color of your base oils and FO's that mutate as soon as you add it.
