I'm making a 7 lb batch of soap. And it won't thicken up! I stired...with a stick blender for an hour!! I was about to give up and thought I would try adding some heat, so I turned the eye on low. 15 min. later still not thickening. I said forget it and blamed it on the lye I bought at the hardware store. I was out and they had the 100% lye Rooto brand.

I forgot to turn the eye off.

I start a new batch of soap in the crock pot since my soap pan is dirty.

15 min. later I go back to dispose of the first soap that wouldn't thicken only to discover it was firming up on the bottom. Did I give up to soon? So I start stick blending it, now it's lumpy, so I stick blend like crazy to get it all mixed back together, finally decided it was as good as it was going to get, threw some gm and oats in and put it in the mold.

It split down the middle almost instantly! Oh well, I'll just thow it away as planned earlier. I go back and find the split was completely gone and it had seal back together and was now flat. ?????

When it cooled I cut it. They are nice hard smooth bars!

I don't know what to think....time will tell I guess, but I'm thinking "how crazy is this!" lol They sure look good right now:)

Rofl! I have to tell you guys....

I told my mother this and you won't believe what she asked me!!

"Are you on your period?"

Omg! Mother that is the oldest wives tell in the world!!!

But then again.....nothing else makes since!!

LOL

:D So glad it turned out for you , all on it's own.
Sometimes I think we should have the camera in the soap room so we could document the "happenings" of the soap pot.

I'm actually going to do that, start making videos/tutorials when I make soap..
For one, if the batch goes RIGHT, it's a good tutorial. For another, if it goes WRONG, it's great for one of those "you wouldn't believe this!" threads!

Great Mom quote! Maybe that explains my latest soaping snafu... I dropped my whole (still soft) log on the kitchen floor. Glad your batch had second thoughts and came together for you!
