No, dope really does relate. Chook is used as a little tweak, like when someone is being kind of stupid (or a dope). It also means chicken but its slang definition is that it's like calling someone, nicely, a moron.

An Aussie slang word for chicken that's commonly used as a 'nice insult,' especially when somebody has done or said something really obviously ******** that's only worth laughing about. Similar to that of a 'dag.'

Belief

I use the term Chook as most Aussies do for the word Chicken, a lot of Aussies will say I'm going to get a Chook for dinner.

Sometimes you will hear - you silly chook (insult), but not often, maybe if your in the country.
