This is my second batch of soap made using GW 415 soy wax. Like the first and third batches, I have a frosting of stearic and palmitic crystals on the top. I shaved the top off the first soap, but they work in my favor for this soap. It’s scented with chocolate and peppermint and was made with expresso powder and a tiny bit of coffee grounds for one of the swirls. This is also the first time I used a discoloring FO to darken most of the batter while holding back a little bit for the non discoloring mint FO. That swirl is lighter brown due to the expresso powder.

NG has a couple of nice coffee FO. I used fresh ground coffee in a HP I did with coffee grounds and coffee butter as the superfat. Yes it is a brown soap! I also ordered cinnnanut from NG to make a latte soap.

You don't need to give me trade secrets here. :) I'm just wondering if you would go off in a totally different direction from a coffee, chocolate, etc. I think I can imagine using a heavier, warm or spicy FO, or something with an orange note, but probably not lime, rose or a fresh, sweet floral.

I don 't sell. I was up too late for me (but I have trouble sleeping anyway) so I didn't get to answer straight way. When I first started soaping, one of my batches was a coffee soap and in it I used Arabic Coffee from Save on Scents or SOS as some know it. That scent yielded a very sweet (my nose) coffee scent that mellowed into a god scent after cure. The only problem is that eventually, after a year, that scent faded to a slight smell. So basically, I want to make a coffee soap that invokes that perfectly balanced sweet, somewhat creamy nasal experience where one would suddenly want to drink coffee.

I'm a dreamer, I know.

My son has been testing this soap for me over the last month and reports back that it is his absolute favorite. He’s been subjected to dozens of soaps over the last 6 months and has become a knowledgeable and trusted tester :). He’s also one of the few male testers I have under 30. He likes bubbles and I’m sure this soap is delivering. In addition to GW415 soy wax (20%), Shea (10%j and HO sunflower oil (10%), I used 30% RBO, 20% CO, citric acid, and a tsp of sugar for 375 g of oils. Time to make more!
