I post my soap pics on my FB page so my friends can see them. So I asked my guy friend why my family won't use my soaps and he said they look like pretty soaps that you're just supposed to leave sitting out, not use. He offered to become a tester but his kids are allergic to nuts so if I do give him anything it will be very basic. Maybe I'll have to make a rustic line of soaps!

i do it too! i sent some to texas, waiting replys. Hubby is afraid to use anything "girly", so his man scents are on a certain shelf. I ask my daughters what they think, i need feedbacj they are my guinea pigs!

I admit I do the drill too . Hubby is well trained now , he tells me exactly what I need to know , he is getting very good at detecting changes to my recipe. My son's family is an awesome test group , they all have skin troubles , handmade soap has helped them all . DIL was here yesterday , I told her pick what she wanted out of the curing racks. She says , but I still have one to use up . I explained that the sky is the limit on the # of soap you can have in your bathroom . Only 1 problem that has occurred is the 3 year old's bubbleyum soap , broke in half after about 2 months of use , he cried and was so devastated , until his mom made him realize it was okay and now he had 2 .

That's so sweet :)

:D that's cute!
Some time ago I made some whipped soap with pineapple strawberry smell (yellow and pink) for my friends 3 year old. She always washes her hands like 10 times over here, even though washing hands isn't really a routine over at het house... So I promised her to make something and let her pick the scents.
She came over for dinner the other day and said 'thank you for making me little princess soap'

What I don't get is how it seems that I have to ask people what they think. If it were me, I would immediately report back. I always assume with my friends that they must not like what I've given them since they didn't bring it up but, I finally asked one of them (who is EXTREMELY picky on what she'll use) if she had tried the stuff and then she went on and on about how she uses it every day and loves it. So maybe it's not necessarily bad news if they don't report back immediately, but I always ask "what DON'T you like about it?" or "what would you change?"

That was so nice of you!!! Bet she loves you for that! :)

Wow! I'm certainly not the only one.

Everyone's pretty well trained at this point regarding what I'm looking for-- creamy vs bubbly, how strong was the smell, how did your skin feel right after you rinsed it off (this is the one that's hardest to get a good answer for), etc.

But I get the occasional holdout from someone who was tired when they jumped into the shower. How dare you bathe in my bathroom without taking extensive notes!

ROFL, we are moving house in 3 weeks, I think I need to make a new sign for the bathroom door: "Please take extensive notes when showering and please try as many soaps as you possibly can during 1 shower"

I am the same, but the problem is, I don't really get any answers.

Which soap did you use ? The brown one
How did it feel ? Fine
Was it better than the others? Don't know
What made it feel fine ? Don't know
Did it lather ok ? Yeah
Did it lather better than the others or worse ? Don't know....look it's soap, ok. I have no idea....

end of conversation....

:D LOL! :D

my husband has a super sensitive face and some time ago he started using my soap to shave and he mentioned one day that he liked the soap.

well, that's all it took for me to start tweeking a shaving soap-each time i gave him something new i pestered him with questions until he complained that i sounded like a "FBI interagator"!

i don't get much out of him, but he definitely let's me know when his "stash: is getting low! :D

I think sometimes when people know you, their first assumption is that it won't be very good... maybe that's why they're putting off trying it. My biggest thing is trying to make sure I get their negative thoughts (if there are any), because you can't fix something if you don't know it's broken.

I'm still trying to figure out something: I made some castile bars w/ blood orange fo and like them a lot. With the scraps, I made some liquid soap which I use on my face (depending on which bathroom I wash my face in ;)) and I gave some to my friends. The previously referenced friend said the only negative about anything was that the liquid soap (I told her to use it on her face) stung her eyes a bit. She said she loved the bar soap though. What she didn't know is that it is the same soap (I mean, I told her then- it wasn't a secret... she didn't know when she first tried it). At first, I thought that maybe she was just being uber-picky but I tried it later and sure enough my eyes stung a bit (I had used it before, but hadn't noticed). Now... why is it that the bar soap wouldn't sting, but the liquid would? The only difference is more water....

my first batch is curing and i am feeling stress from everyone "wanting" to try out my soap.... like what if its bad or something..?? i really wanna wait until i have a few more batches under my belt before formally giving them away for testing.....

but i can def see myself turning into an interrogator soon!! LOL

Funny this came up! I just posted on face book that I need testers, I got probably 10 people responding. I have told them all that I expect honesty and feedback from them, unlike my boyfriend who says yeah its a great soap and walks away ;) Now, I know it is more than a great soap, it could stink, it could have crappy lather, it could color him orange for all he tells me. LOL

He will get better the more soap you make . My current hubby actually told me didn't like one of soaps ( apricot papaya ). I will be calling my divorce attorney first thing Monday morning , the nerve .

LOL! My DH declared that my honey & oatmeal goat milk soap (which I wasn't mad about) was "bollocks." I asked him exactly what he didn't like about it (I thought the oatmeal was a bit much... too chunky even though it was basically powder) "no smell," he says. (sigh...) I didn't add any scents because I heard that honey really comes through..... I didn't think so, I just smell oatmeal.
But, really? No scent= bollocks. :? I should try another bar, it was no where near cured. Our divorce should be final soon... once custody of the pets is worked out.

i have some testers that i use, and with each bar of soap they get i include a questionnaire for them to fill out before they get another bar. i find this much more comprhensive than just speaking to them.

i have a list of about 12 questions, and then the last one:

of all the bars you've tried, which is STILL your favorite ? why?

that way you can start looking for trends. :D

Most-effective, most-professional and most-excellent idea!
