Good morning soapers!
I set out to make a small 2lb. batch of my Merlot soap this morning. I resized the recipe in Soapmaker Pro 3 and all was well. Until I started mixing the oils and lye water together. I thought to myself "This doesn't look like enough soap to fill my mold!" I continued to add FO and colorant and realized something had gone wrong.
When I resized the recipe in SP3, I meant to indicate I wanted 25oz of base oils. Instead, I input 25oz total weight! I was a third short of my batch!
Trying to figure out what to do, I decided to pour the beautiful red fragranced soap I'd just made into the mold. I realized I had made a batch with 16oz of base oils, so I quickly resized the recipe again down to 9oz of base oils to make up the difference.
I SCRAMBLED to make a plain, unfragranced, uncolored batch of batter to add into the mold to fill it up.
When I poured it in I tried to do a technique where I take my spatula and just push the top layer down into the bottom layer (to make it look a little interesting) and noticed the bottom layer was VERY thick already. It had been sitting probably 10 to 15 minutes (who knows, it felt like an hour to my panicked self) before I got the new batter on top of it.
I hope it turns out alright. I really don't want to have a wasted batch and I need to get my inventory up for the fall and holidays!
Anyone done this before?
