I'm confused on what to add with tea tree oil and how much to use. My mother in-law wants me to make her a soap with tea tree and I was looking for some help?? Do you add as much just like FO's or EO's?

I think the stuff stinks but my wife and mother-in-law love the stuff

Any one have any ideas on a combo to use

Thanks for everyones help !!!!

Tea Tree

Tea Tree and Lavender are the only two essential oils (EO) that you can safely apply directly to the skin. All other essential oils must be diluted in a "carrier oil" (almond oil, sunflower oil, olive oil, etc.) before being applied to bare skin. So, in theory, you could safely add a large amount of Tea Tree EO to your soap batch, but I always limit my essential oils to no more than 2.5% of the weight of the oils.

I make a soap with a blend of Tea Tree and Geranium EO's that is quite lovely. The Geranium adds a very pleanant floral scent that masks the more medicinal Tea Tree odor, but you can still smell the clean Tea Tree "top note" in the soap.

Since Tea Tree EO is a "top note" scent, I suggest combining it with "middle note" scents like Geranium, and/or "base note" scents like Cedar, Vetiver.

Well I have a tea tree soap I can't keep in stock. I use about 2 ounce straight with 3 pound batch cold pour. I also use tea water. They love it, my boys will not use anything else. The smell stays and the soap is lovely.

We use cloth diapers so TTO is a common thing in my community.. however I HATE the smell of that stuff (gag) and find it to be very pungent. Not much needed, as far as I'm concerned LOL

Tea Tree EO

Tea Tree essential oil was the very 1st I added when learning to make soap. My father and sister-in-law love it and keep asking me to make more. LOL I use a considerable amount. Since it is added right before pouring into molds (CP)...it is distributed well into all the oils being sopanified. And like mentioned earlier....is already safe for direct skin contact (cuts, abrasions, infections, bites, etc).

It's great for people with acne, scalp conditions or those of us who just LOVE it period. LOL

I have mixed it with Eucalyptus EO before, in soap. It was very refreshing. And felt good on my itchy, flaky scalp.

I always keep a basic castile soap with lots of TT in it, in our van's first aid kit, along with the original EO and other essentials.

We have also been using my homemade hard bar soap with a lot of TT in it...for washing clothes. I use a pampered shef cheese grater (that holds the soap in place and turns) and shred it over the load. Doesn't take much at all to wash well. The TT is especially good for laundry because it's a broad spectrum antibacterial. It is the only safe, non-toxic, natural liquid that can be used to kill not just staph....but in some cases the MRSA strain of staph! Since bleach is toxic on your skin, to breathe or ingest...TT the best!

wow didnt know that! my bro JUST had that....twice!

I don't have any tea tree oil so what exactly does it smell like? I have heard a lot of people don't like the smell of it but others don't seem to mind. Is there anything you can add to it to make it smell better?

Re: Tea Tree EO

My husband had it 4 times, before I discovered I had something in my cabinet that could have aided in killing the colonization of it and healing the wound! LOL He was in the ER twice with MRSA. They kept telling me all I could do was wash everyone and everything with bleach water. Which of course I did (didn't want it getting into their bloodstream)...but I hated having to do that. SOO toxic. Then I decided to dig a little deaper online and found out about it killing MRSA. So, now I use vinegar and TT for disinfecting my house, linens, boo boos, etc. If it works as good as bleach in killing bacteria...no reason to continue using that junk.

And to the other comment about how it smells. It's hard to explain. It's very menthalated (sp)...herbacious maybe. And rather strong, depending on what quality you buy. I like it with Eucalyptus or Lavender. It can go well with a number of other EOs. I had one of those plugins that had lavender FO (I'm sure). It warms it and dispurses it throughout the room. When it ran out, I popped the top of the glass jar off and refilled it with TT. I had a funky smell in one room. Plugged that sucker back in. You can still smell a hint of lavender with the TT. Very nice. TT is a great odor eliminator, as is vinegar (sorry if I already mentioned that). It helps with colds and such. I put it on my A/C Unit vents, freshen the furniture with it. Feebreeze is so toxic.

And like anything else, the more you use it the less it bothers you (at least in my exprience).

Sounds like TT is a good thing to have around the house then! I'm going to have to get some. Thanks again to you all for all the great information. If it wasn't for you guys...I wouldn't learn anything about soaping! You guys are always so very helpful!!

Ok, this is groce, but when i got to know my hubby, he had not taken care of his body for a loooong time (was clean, but never used creams or anything) and he had major issues with his toenails. All thick and yellow & full of fungii

Made him rub his feed with teatree oil; after 3 uses over 2 weeks the nails were all back to normal!

Isn't some of this stuff that we play with amazing!! That is so cool to know that some of the EOs and herbs that we play with in soap can do such amazing things!

Toenails LOL

Interesting that you mentioned about the toenail fungi.

My dad brought that to my attention recently, too.

He began to have a problem with yellowing of his toenails.

He did exactly that and it dissapeared.

It IS amazing isn't it!

just another reminder of how awesome our creator's imagination is! ;0)

Tea tree oil applied straight to warts once a day will clear them up in a couple of months. This helped my daughter much better than the drugstore treatment.

I have had good results with it for warts as well. Garlic pills are also a really great treatment when nothing else keeps them gone. My husband and son had a few trouble spots.

ya, i have tea tree in several spray bottles with water, lemon eo and lavender eo. clean tub, toilet, windows, counters, everything.
