So I went to local Asian store last night to get Tapioca Starch for BB to try. I don't want to use Corn starch.
There were 5 different packages.
Some just said Ingredients: Tapioca starch, some had water in ingredient list.
One, I think, said water soluble - maybe I could just be projecting on my searching on here.

So HOW do you tell if it is Modified. I 'think' in US you need to have that label, but most of these come from Vietnam or other Asian countries.

I grabbed one because it was $1 for 14oz. It is Tapioca, Water. For a Buck I might try it but don't want to waste the other ingredients in a BB or bubble scoop.

Anyone know? Or anyone tried a regular tapioca starch ?
Does it HAVE to be Modified?

Edit to add. I see WSP has this but it does NOT say if it is Modified or not, is it?

Does this help? Or just muddy the waters?

Is there are brand name on the package? You could do a search using the brand name and perhaps find if they sell only modified or un-modified tapioca.

From what I am reading, it sounds like the modification benefits thickening properties in foods, so I don't know if it matters or not in bath bombs.

ETA: Also it helps harden cheeses, so maybe it does help harden a BB. https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/6626/0b62b87ce6ce5a5d28ed70a3d132180fc462.pdf

I saw that too. Thank you for the 2nd link, I will read it later.

I have been looking all day, 2 trips out to the markets.
What I DO know is that if you are Gluten / Celiac issues it should be Modified, yet at the same time there is NO Gluten in tapioca, nor is it GMO :) All these things that don't matter to me.
Can't find much of soap forums either.

Modified means it is more processed , can't explain it as my eyes are blurry now. But gets more starch out of it by washing it .... :smallshrug:

I am seeing that it needs to say Modified on the package.
All in the Asain store just say starch.

What I find funny is that WSP doesn't say either nor are there any notes about it from others.

I guess Tapioca and Corn starches cost about the same. So I tried one Bubbling Truffle with Corn starch. Will see how it is tomorrow morning.
