Tallow

I have been reading about making tallow from fat from the butcher.
Does anyone on this forum make their own or do you buy it already made?

I cant find it in the stores in France and was thinking of asking the local butcher for a bag of fat. But would like some advice on your experience with this, and how it affects your soap if you use it.

Animal fats make nice soaps in my opinion, though i have only used lard. If you can render it i would use it, at least to try. If you dont love it that is fine but at least you made it.

Tallow does make nice soap. As stated you could need to render/clean it. Many purchase tallow but some render it themselves.

It comes out a beautiful white with no smell

I also followed Lionprincess's directions using deer fat, it came out beautiful! It makes a lovely soap as well.
