Has anyone ever made these or used them? I am curious to hear your experiences with them. I am ordering some tallow to make soap and came across a emergency candle tutorial on making tallow candles. You basically melt down the fat and pour it into a jar lol...seems easy right ;) I can burn water though .

Anyways...I assume they would be most similar to a soy container candle. Not sure what wick would be best but I guess I'd try my hand at ones designed for soy...then trial and error comes in I guess. Also I wonder if they smell bad unscented when they are burned though?

It never ever occurred to me that I could use tallow for soap and candles until today. Craft multi-tasking at its best!

Would you try these?

Here is the link I saw it on: http://www.theprairiehomestead.com/2014/01/tallow-emergency-candles.html

LOL well let me know how it goes. You reminded me I needed to submit my order for the tallow too. Guess I better get upstairs and get my purse and get that order off...I completely forgot I never completed my checkout until now lol.

I second!
I keep thinking it's because I'm new though...like, I'll get over it shortly.
Right now I'm looking for bees wax because I read on here how it can
help with ash...have not made a soap yet, least of all an ashy soap, but oh gosh, let me shop for bees wax

Did you happen end up being able to make the candles out of Tallow? How did they turn out and did they stink when burned? I am going to make a few later on once all my supplies get here and after I make some soap. I read they produce a lot of soot but that is to be expected I think.
