Those of you who swirl the top of soap after it thickenings up, how do you prevent the powder on top if you dont cover? Every bar ive made and forgot the top piece of wax paper has the ashy powder.

thanks

I spray the tops with isopropyl alcohol (you can find it at the pharmacy/grocery store)

thanks

i use plastic wrap, not wax paper, to cover the finished soap after i've molded, and have almost never had a problem with ash on top...

paillo the plastic wrap doesnt smash the swirls? (not color swirls but soap swirls)

thanks tasha, will look into it.

I try to make certain I don't fill my mold all the way to the top, then I put something rigid over the top- something like a cookie sheet or cardboard-to keep air exposure down to a minimum, and then put my towels/blankets over that. You could do this with CPOP too. The less the soap is exposed to air, the less ash formation I've gotten. And then the surface of the soap remains nice a smooth. Or swirled, as the case may be.

I also spray with alcohol and the ash monkey left...

Do you do this in the mold? Out of the mold? After curing? I have tried this after curing as I'm wrapping it up, but it doesn't seem to make much difference.
