It may be unsaponifiable but I still think the lye might cause some chemical change. For example, beeswax has vitamin A in it. Will the lye destroy the vitamin A? I'm leaning towards "yes" but I don't know enough about soap chemistry to substantiate my opinion.

Vitamin A seems to be unstable, in some cases, in acidic environments, but not alkaline.
