Hello,

I saw an easy recipe for making a sugar scrub from a castile liquid soap base. It was 1 cup soap base, 1 cup jojoba oil and 1 cup sugar. My question is, if I were to place this into a squeeze tube so that wet and dirty hands wouldn't touch the product, would I need to add preservative? Also, what kind of sugar works best? :?

I don't know that it would stay mixed. Or that it woudn't turn to cement. I suggest putting some in a bowl or jar and seeing what happens over a couple of weeks before packaging that way.

Regarding the preservative - I prefer to err on the side of caution and use one.

Use whatever kind of sugar you like best. I use regular white sugar cuz others are too rough for my tender skin. :)

I was just reading about this on another forum. Optiphen is used for this application. Lotioncrafters is one place to purchase it.

Thank you for your posts! Carebear, if in testing this my mixture separates, which it probably will, can I use ewax to keep it together or is this a dumb question? If you can use ewax, how much....5% like suggested in lotion?

can epsom salts be used as a substitute to the sugar or would it dissolve?
