storing cured soaps in plastic?

I've been keeping my soaps in shoe boxes til I'm ready to give/use them. I've seen so many videos and articles suggesting wrapping them in plastic to extend their shelf life!...confused :? :!:

I'm assuming after they're cured and I want to give them away in say a couple of weeks it'd be alright but then do I need to tell them to open up th soaps or are they safe in the plastic wrap?

When you say "store in plastic" are you meaning to store the bars in plastic storage boxes or are you referring to wrapping them in a plastic wrap? I have seem plastic storage units used but they were not tightly sealed type boxes. I have shied away from wrapping in any type of wrap, 1 because I am lazy and don't want to spend the time to do it, 2 it seems to me that soap continues to dry and cure for a very long time, being open allows that to happen and 3 everyone wants to smell them anyway, so if they are in plastic the person has to open them. I have dropped some into small cellophane bags when mailing them, just as a bit of protection from bumping into each other although I usually have them wedged so tightly in the box they are more likely to become one big bar than anything else.

I was referring to any sort of plastic wrap but I guess I'll stick to coloured paper etc. to wrap for gifts! thanks for the replies.
