Starting (another) new hobby

Hello, I have been tossing around the idea of making soap for a little while now. Well, really since I starting shaving with shaving soap and a brush but it seems like a while. So, I know what I want my soap to do, I just don't know how to put it all together yet. My wife says that I need to learn to make my own soap so that I will stop spending money on all of the expensive soap!

So, I guess that I am here really to learn how to make shaving soap. I have read a few of the postings but that really didn't answer my questions. I don't want to jump into something like this utilizing trial and error.

I checked out The Soapmaker's Companion and found a lot of good information in there but I have yet to take that step forward because something still isn't clicking for me. I probably just need to make a batch or two to get the 'feel' for it. From there I will probably try to make my wife some lotions/creams and maybe some other types of soap (like a shampoo bar (mmm....sandalwood...mmm).

I have so many questions that I am not even sure where to start! I will put them in later sections though.

At any rate, nice talking (rambling?) with everyone and I hope that I haven't scared anyone off! :shock:
