I bought this TOG mold on etsy thinking it would solve my no lining issue. So wrong!

http://www.etsy.com/listing/56534841/th ... r-log-mold
( I bought the 5 pound )

First of all, I live 3 hours away and it took over a month for me to receive it. The etsy site said it was in stock and would ship next day. It took 3 emails to get it.

Secondly, I made 3 batches of soap and could NOT get it out without freezing. The third batch I made wouldn't come out after 48 hours so I put it in the freezer. Still couldn't get it out so I used a small rubber mallet to shift the end piece. 1/3 of the end cap broke right off!

Thirdly, when I went to rinse of the residual soap around the edges the "paint" started to scratch off. I used a PLASTIC kitchen scrubber lightly with warm water.

I thought this thing was plastic and would hold up better. I think I'll stick to freezer paper. At least I'll know what I'm getting. Uggh!!

Thanks for letting me vent. It's too bad, the guy could have had more sales.

Everything you just said has happened to a lot of other people. Have you read their feedback?
Before I knew about the feedback history of this shop, I contacted them to see if they would do a custom mold and he never got back to me. I absolutely HATE when sellers on there ignore potential customers. If I walked up to you in a real store and asked you a question you wouldn't just stand there and ignore me... so that alone is what turned me off from them. Not professional at all.
Sorry you got a bum mold. Those are expensive too. :( Try contacting him, although you probably won't get a reply.

I did leave feedback on etsy, but I'm so disgusted that I don't want any conversations with him. I guess I'll just chalk it up to "lesson learned". My problem is I started out with 3.5" wide and 3" high molds and now all of my packaging is suited to that width and height. I'm having a hard time finding molds that width AND height. (I don't make them 3" high but like the extra space). I'll just keep looking. Custom made molds are soooo expensive. :?

oh boy - more negative feedback for soapmaker man. you can expect him to come sniffing aroudn here again, because he always gets bent out of shape when someone goes public.

sigh.

let me guess
1. on etsy I state that the 1 in stock is just a lye perpetrated by etsy. it's not my fault.
2. no one else has has complained of this problem. what are YOU doing wrong?
3. i'm just a poor retired guy doing the best I can.
4. but if you'd come to me first, I've had made it right! what? you were too frustrated over the absurdly long timeline to receive the molds in the first place, and all the "I'll ship it tomorrow" lies and the lack of responses to emails to even bother? well that's just not fair!

Uplands are another great option, but sadly Linda is in the process of selling the business so I don't know where they stand right now.

steve at www.soap-making-resource.com is another good option. i love the wood molds i have from him that have a one-inch cut in them so you can just slide your soap along in the mold and make nice even cuts. he has an acrylic line now that doesn't require lining. i'm drooling over it but don't have one yet.

I can't praise my woodfield moulds enough. They truly are wonderful and so easy to get the soap out of. And perfect up to date feedback/communication.

I don't know I would ever buy from a seller with feedback like that.... I'd have to be pretty desperate.

Waaaaahhhhhh!!! I love 'em.

Woodfields look great. Silicone has spoiled me forever.
